hey, i own a 1993 r33 series 1 skyline and wanted to perform a series 2 headlight conversion.I ask around here but i cant seem to get a solid answer so i was just wondering if there was anybody out there who can give me some clear and correct answers on what i need to change on my car to do this conversion?if there is a topic covering this already can somebody lead me to it, if not i would appreciate some help!!!

^^^ Lol :(

you have to change at least the bonnet, and possibly the grill

even after that, im not sure they would even fit... If you want, i know a guy who can probably answer your question...

you joined an hr ago asked and got no replies at 12:04 am. surprising..

i don't mean that i asked on skylinesaustralia and got no answer i meant i've asked around a bit in adelaide and got no good helpful answers.

Why do you want to do that conversion anyway? To much mucking around. Rather see if you can find some series III headlights. They are the same shape as the series I, so will be easy to fit and they have a projector headlight.

Hi, i want to do this due to the series II lights looking a lot better and i dont want to sell my car (there's a long story behind that but i wont go there), what years did the series III lights come out in?I know some people think i'm better off not doing it all together or selling it and buying a series II, but i have my reasons and it would be something different compared to whats out there.like i said any help is greatly appreciated!!!My car is making 206rwhw and i'm getting some 18" rays wheels in the near future and some Tein coil overs, followed by a head gasket, oil cooler and a HKS BB turbo not sure which one yet but i'm aiming at 300rwkw or a but more on high boost!but thought while i'm changing the mags and lowering it i want to make it look better so i thought the series II headlight conversion would do the car more justice.thanks for the helpful suggestions so far, keep em coming CHEERS :)

From memory the series III's are only '97 and '98 model GTR's, so I know those lights will be hard to find. Its what I'm looking at doing sometime down the track. To do the conversion you are looking at doing, I'd say that you'd hav to change the front quarters and the bonnet at a minimum. I'd say the front bumpers are the same. I'f they're not, it would be close enough not to notice.

I'd say with this in mind you are looking at two options:

1. If you want your car to have a stock front end, try looking for someone wrecking their R33 series II. There are plenty of ppl around wrecking due to rear end damage. Try getting the stuff you need that way.

2. If you want aftermarket bonnet and front quarters, buy parts that are designed for series II's and fit them all with the lights. There are plenty of companies that make different quarters and bonnets. Have a look around.

Or if you like you could do a combination of these two options eg. stock quarters from wreck, aftermarket bonnet :)

Cheers for that man, it's about time someone with a brain helped me out lol. At least now i know what my options are thanks and best of luck with your car and mods, take care cheers!!!

I doubt there would be any difference in the mounting points for the different parts between the two models. From the look of the two cars I would say to fit the headlights you would need to change the bonnet and grill. The indicator section of the two lights appear the same so you shouldn't need to change your quarter panels. Once this is done the front bar may not match up with the lights or grill. I think it would fit but may look strange, you could grab a standard front bar or any aftermarket one to suit a series 2.

all you need is a series 2 bonnet, series 2 headlights, series 2 grill, the front bar will sit somewhat okay. but doesnt look nice in my opinion. the front quarter panels are exactly the same, same as mounting points for the headlights. easiest way is to get an aftermarket r33 series 2 front bar with the grill attached. looks alot nicer than an r33 series 1 front. thats why i did it. good luck.

I do a quick summary for you:

S2 conversation requires : S2 headlights, S2 Bonnet, S2 Front Guards, S2 Front Bar And Grill

S3 GTR conversation requires: S3 GTR headlights, S3 GTR Bonnet ( Not s1 or s2 gtr bonnet as they are different), GTR guards, gtr grill and gtr front bar.

BUT! having said that, someone on HK skyline club put s3 gtr headlights onto his gts-t without changing anything(I THINK), he just modded it, i see if i can find the link

Thanks heaps man, your a legend :domokun: i agree with you 100% on that, and that's why i want to do it (that's if my plans don't change again lol) i go through a lot of plans and ideas until one really hits me so i see how i go but thanks for info!!!

Thats cool :domokun:

Make sure you let us know what you did... and definately post up some before and after pics.

Who knows what i finally end up doing but thanks for the help and as i said i'll let u know what happens could be days, weeks or even months before my plans/ideas finalise but if i take ages i'll post everything eventually so keep an eye out!!!Wish me luck actually wish me money cause i'll really need it......bad :)

  • 2 months later...

Series II headlights are smaller than the Series I and yes better looking

I know this because I fried my S2 headlights and bought some S1s since the S2s were too expensive.

So you can fit the S2 headlights straight onto the S1 and all you need is a S2 grill.

The parts required;

Sii Bonnet

Sii Headlights

Sii Reo

Sii Front bar inc. Grill (aftermarket or standard)

Sii Indicators

Wiring for fog lights as my Si didnt have fog lights.

Si fenders are the same as a Sii so there ok to use.

Cheers

Johno

    • Which are almost all nonsense. Ignore. Obviously enough, if it is not a porous block, then any such thing is a waste of time. External block surface? Would be a waste of time, if the block was actually porous. It would need to go on the inside, which is inaccessible, and even if the block was open deck so that that area was acessible, it would be unlikely to work. But seeing as this is all nonsense, stop worrying about it.   If the coolant is coming from the side of the block it is 10:1 odds that it is either a welch plug, or it is coming from the head gasket. Maybe from one of the coolant lines feeding the turbo, or even the heater. Liquids that leak from up high can travel sideways along casting surfaces or pipes, etc on the engine before finding a spot from which to drop.
    • Yeah rust is sadly also a bit of an issue on my car. Doubt there is many cars out there that actually have no rust in those aeas. The strut towers look fine but some of the surounding metal sheets show a bit of brown cancer peeking out from in between. I hope I can make do with external remedies and won't have to rip open the whole front end anytime soon. It looks somewhat minor compared to some shit I have seen online. I have worked on a few cars but I expect the RB26 to be my first 'engine out' job at some point.
    • Welcome Jan, It's very likely that you are in over your head. You'll just have to learn to swim hard and fast! These old rust buckets have more ways to bankrupt us than almost any other car. But hopefully there's nothing wrong that ruins the whole show! We can help a fair bit. There's plenty here who've been fixing these things for >25 years. cheers
    • Hi all. First off, thanks for reading my post. So end of last season I put the car away knowing I was leaking at least two fluids. One of them being rear turbo's oil. I went to my car recently that is waiting in a garage to take a peek with my boroscope to try and see if I can narrow down the souce of oil before taking it out of storage. What I found is not so great I think. The rear turbo is (probably) leaking from the oil drain. The hose and it's clamps are probably the original ones, so most likely just worn out or loose. However I spotted a line of rust going straight down from the turbo oil feed, as if water leaked out of there at some point. Also explains the red liquid that was dripping from my front subframe, which I initially thought was power steering. I can even see coolant drops hanging off the side of the oil pan as well. After a quick hit on the web I found a select few discussions about porous engine blocks. My question is if the pics of the turbo oil feed and the left hand side of the block (imgur link below) looks like it could be exactly that to you. Maybe someone in the community has seen it before and knows what it looks like. If it actually is a porously leaking block, has anyone attempted at fixing it with simple methods like putting a sealer in the cooling system and using something like jb weld on the block surface, or will it just leak in 2 weeks again? I could not find any detailed info or pictures on this topic. If I need a new engine, tell me softly. https://imgur.com/a/knVvmZ8
    • Hey all. I'm 23 and from Germany, September last year I bought a mildly modded 1995 GTR Vspec. Looks great and was fun so far, but I already have a list of issues of various severity that I need to take care of, potentially growing longer the closer I look. I just hope I'm not in over my head, I really want to keep the car and work towards it becoming great. I hope y'all will help me out in getting there, I am positive I will need help sooner rather than later to figure out how to proceed. greetings, some pics of the car I posted to imgur. https://imgur.com/a/StKkabz
