Here is the dillema. I am in the process of tearing down my RB20DET. I wasn't planning on replacing the oil pump, but I was going to replace the oil pump gasket and the front crank seal. I haven't been able to remove the crank timing gear. I have used tons of PB Blaster and tons of heat to no avail. I haven't seen a puller that I could get around the gear due to the oil pump housing. I used a torch for what was probably way too long. I am able to get screwdrivers under the gear, but I am getting nowhere. In all of you guys' opinions, do you think I would be okay to just forget about and move on with the build? I think so, but what do I know?

I had a similar problem on a RB30 Nissan motor (same timing gear) In the end I had to split it open using a cold chisel along its length. Drastic but at least I got it off!!!! It was severely corroded onto the crankshaft. Apparently its a common problem with Nissan RB motors. Not too dear to buy a new one either - go to a Holden Dealer & get one , about $30 exactly the same as all RB motors size & tooth wise. Make sure you grease it up before you bang it onto the crankshaft.....
