S13 Silvia
Does anyone know if the rb20 gearbox (in any vehicle, manual or auto) came out with an electric speed sensor? Or if any other RB gearbox came out with an electronic speed sensor? Or if any electronic Nissan speed sensor will fit into an rb20 gearbox? The reason I am asking is because I need my silvia speedo is electric where as the rb20 gearbox had a mechanical speed sensor in it. Belly_up
my GTS-4 front cut had mechanical speedo cable, but my gearbox (which i got seperate) had an electronic sender unit on it. I'll check it out next time i'm under the car and see if has any identifying marks or part numbers on it for ya. S13 Silvia
ok, thanks mate. I was told that all RB20 gearboxes (which are the same as RB30E, RB25DE) only come out with a mechanical sender in the R32, where as the same gearboxes in other cars have an electrical sender and apparently you can change the senders in em........but I'll post on here if that works out! Emre
Did you try your Silvia speed sensor in the RB20 box...? How different do they look when you put them side by side...? S13 Silvia
Yeah I tried my silvia one which was out of a ca18de auto. Compared to the rb20 mechanical sender, the diameter is bigger (the silvia one that is), so it doesn't fit in. People have since told me that the R32 RB gearboxes are the only ones to come with a mechanical sender and the rest (rb30e and rb25de) have electrical sender's so they are mostprobably interchangable. And also someone told me they used a manual silvia that has HUD and that fitted straight in place. Emre
Did you actually try to fit your silvia speed sensor in the box ? As illogical as this may sound, try it. Gtrs have different speed sensors in between the R32 and R33s. They only differ in the diameter of the gear and looking at it you automatically assume they are not interchangable... but they are. S13 Silvia
Yup, I tried it. Didn't fit. I actually didn't realise they were of different diameters until I tried to put the silvia one in. S13 Silvia
I got hold of a speed sensor from a RB30E and it fits onto the RB20 box but has three wires coming out of it as opposed to two wires coming out of my old silvia auto speed sensor. The silvia auto had a black and green wire The RB30E speed sensor has a black, red and brown wire. Any ideas what the extra wire is for and/or where it goes?
