ok so i got my car tuned today im pretty happy with the tune but my car only made 181rwkw with stock turbo, apexi safc, 3inch dump pipe with 3.5inch cat back with stock cat, turbosmart bleed valve set at 11.2psi now is it the stock cat holding me back from 200kw like every one else is getting with there stock turbo or the safc.

another thing how much would you pay to get your car tuned etc cos i think i paid a fair penny to get a 20hp gain the way i had it tuned it was making 223hp and they got 243 and my air fuel ratios wear reasonbly good. i wont be naming any names but it cost me $575 for the tune and it took then close to 8 hours to do it and to top it all off they scraped the f**k out of my brand new painted body kit not 1 week old grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yeah i reckon you should get them to fix the paint aswell, only if you dont intend on going back.

I made 175rwkw with safc, stock turbo, 3inch dump and 3.5inch cat back, fmic, boost tap set at 9-10 psi and an aftermarket cat so your power sounds about right. Its the stock ecu thats holding it from 200, get an aftermarket ecu and up the boost a bit more and you will see the power you want, thats what im tryin to save for lol

no i wasnt there they would not let me stay they kept making shit up like oh itl take 6 hours and rah rah rah they obviously didnt want me there so i left them to it and not very impressed the car is running better and has a better mid range and top end so its good but not for the money and the time that they spent doing it concidering its a peice of piss to use an apexi safc. and i did tlk to him bout the kit he said he will tlk to his boss and get bak to me

Hey mate, your tune & power figures seem normal without an aftermarket ECU, you will notice the difference when you upgrade your ecu.. As for the bodykit damage that would have REALLY PISSED ME OFF! The main thing regarding your cars performance is if you are you happy with it?

yeh dnt get me wrong im happy with the power on stock ecu n stuff but for the price of $575 and apperently 8 hours whorth of tuning is what has got me in a bad mood and then the body kit topped it off but i piked up a set of clear nismo indicators still in box and fuel filler car still in box for $40 so that was good

Dyno times expensive, expecially when at a well recognised tuner. My next tune is gonna cost bout $600 as apose to my first that was $300. Pay for what you get i guess, i wasn't happy at all with the first tune but it was cheap and done the job on the mods i had and i didnt wanna leave it that way for long so i wasnt all that bothered. Just remember that a good tune is probably the most important part of doing your car up to be quick and reliable. The 8 hours was probably due to them waiting so they could play around with your cold start.

As for the bodykit... make em pay for it regardless if your gonna go back or not!

well how expensive is dyno time $70 an hour seems a lil bit exy for them to be tuning my apexi safc and not really doing much else at all i dont see why it takes them 8 hours to tune the car and change 1 sprak plug apperantly, but it never needed changing cos i put new plugs in it not 2 weeks ago and set them at .9mm gap they say that the one they pulled out was set to small dnt understnad reallt ehy wear all .9.

and its not realy a reputible tuner its just hte only one we have in this town with a dyno i live in gladstone Qld by the way so yeh its gay. will be going else wear next time even if i have to travel

u paid way too much for a safc tune. it should be only a couple of hundred dollars at most. Secondly ur power seems ok. post up ur dyno graph. remember its not all about peak power. if u have a nice curve, it means u have good average power throughout the rev range. if u get a high flow cat u might net a couple of kws. ALSO if ur running good a/f ratios now, an aftermarket ecu will not increase ur peak power too greatly, contratry to common expectation. it will give u great mid range.

$500 for the S-AFC tune is too much.

$350 is what i would normally pay for a drive in, drive out tune and nothing else.

Which then begs the question... did they need to spend time fixing stuff as they went?

Small little things/niggles that were found and so on. These do add up and need to be thought about.

If you took them a car that wasnt "ready to tune" and needed fiddly things, then probably fair enough is the price.

And if they are the only tuner, then, tough titties mate. You can either drive to another town or just pay what they ask.

You dont really have much to go by in a monopoly situation

The 8 hours was probably due to them waiting so they could play around with your cold start.

safc keeps stock ecu, so cold start is still done by stock ecu.

my mate paid $350 for a powerfc tune on his r33 gtst. took em around 1 hr to do...

i paid about $500 for my powerfc tune on my sr20det, including the testing AND replacing fuel pump, regulator. had to pull fuel filter too. (costs of these parts were added later, the $500 includes tuning and labour). sounds like you got gipped

Ive been overcharged before for a safc tune (around same $$ same time quoted).

Vote with your feet and dont go back to that workshop for a tune.

last tune cost me less than a cple hundred........ from a different tuner, lol.

However, with the damage, the people who damages it need to pay for it.

Put it this way, if I had a roof tiler doing some roofing work on my house and they fell thru the roof, causing damage obviously, such as a hole in the roof, would I ignore it and forget about it? no way hoze'y, get them to sort out the bodykit repairs for sure.

didn't you ask for an estimate for the tune before you went there?

I apid $150 for my safc tune on an s14.

this was in sydney at Unigroup.

It took 1.5 hours.

And it was also with him showing me and talking to me through each change he made to the a:f and my boost controller.

that is a lot of money. and 8 hours is rediculous.

and who the hell changes 1 spark plug?

Tell us the shop, they deserve to be named after charging that. 8Hours is BS, its not like safc's are hard to tune.

As a rough guide it's costing me $500 for a full tune with FC datalogit + installing new injectors, so an safc should be at most $250 to tune.

well i did ask for a price and they said 70 n hour and couldnt tell me how long it would take, and yeh well i only just put new plugs in it not 2 weeks ago and they wear all gapped at .9mm and i should no i did them. as for the bodykit they hav agreed to fix it they will be doing this on sataday. so thats all good but i still think i got ripped off anf im the stupid one for paying for it the name of the place is called gladstone dyno tune and i will never be going there again i would much rather travel to have my car tuned rather than get charged a rediculous amount for a basic tune.

i couldnt tell you whearther they did start all over again but i dought they would have but i will be asking them what took them 8 hours to do because really if i had a dyno it would take about 2 hours tops drive on drive off. i dnt thikn there was any reason that they needed to change 1 spark plug they are just after my money and by the looks of it they got it
