I emptied out the radiator fluid tonight, then flushed the radiator and filled it back up. One problem, only 2.5 liters went in???? The hose from the bottom has no fluid in it and with the engine running it does not get hot. Is there a thermostat in the radiator stopping the fluid from flowing. Can someone give me a basic rundown of the cooling system so I can tell if it is working right. I am driving to melbourne tomorrow and need to know before I go if everything is ok.

Cheers

Damo,

I don't know the exact procedure to re-fill the radiator on a skyline, but this is what i do know.

On most RB's (I 'think the RB30 is the exception) there is a bleed tape up near the inlet manifold. It has a waring on it saying "never open when hot", it looks like just a bolt in a seat - if that makes sence !!

I'm pretty sure this is the bleed to get the air out of the water system.

Try taking this bolt out and see if it'll bleed air out and keep an eye on the radiator fluid to se if it drops.

With my old cars (thermo up top), you'd fill up the radiator and run the car up to temp to get the thermostat to open, and then top it up again.

I can't remember if the thermostat on the RB25's is up the top or down the bottom ;)

If it's down the bottom it might be harder to fill the block up......

One thing though, I'd seek advise before running the motor for long periods with only 2.5 litres in it....

Good luck

J

the RB cooling system is 8L so 2.5L is a little low...

how did you flush it? are you sure you got all the coolant out?

the radiator itself probably takes around 2.5L, maybe you didnt get all the coolant out of the runners

when bleeding, run from cold with the heater on until the thermostat opens then recap it after the bubbles stop. take it for a drive, let it cool down and top it up. cooling systems are biatches! ive just gotten over all my problems, a pin-hole leak in one of the hoses caused a blown radiator and water pump - nice
