A haltech doesn't use an AFM :)
I assumed they had plug'n'play now but whether they do or don't isn't the problem!

If the BOV is 'leaking' ie. 'loosing signal' whether it is MAP or MAF the symtoms are similar.

A tune should only take a day!

Exactly one day.

I've had my Haltech in for a year and a half all tuned by richo at allstar and have not had 1 problem..

car has never missed a beat.. oh and bunta is correct haltech e11V2 does not use AFM's so that wont be your problem EVER..

you might not understand what i am talking about without going over what i wrote in the last topic i posted but i will tell you what has happened any way so we all know what has been happening since.

I left every one who saw my post and replied to it saying i was taking my car to all star performance tuning at geebung to have some bugs ironed out that i noticed had been occuring, these bugs were.

-my cold starts being shocking or the engine stalling.

-my feul pump (walbro) is making to much noise and i think is the reason for my shocking cold starts.

-after starting my car and the engine goes to idle two things can occur #1 if left ideling long enough the revs will drop and bounce around until the car warms up which takes a very long time, or #2 i will try to move the car taking my foot off the clutch as you would normally do then the cars revs would go down drastically and would stall.

-while driving every thing is fine if i ever own a ferrari i want i want it to sound and drive like my skyline.

-when i come to a stop however is the problem, when i go into second gear i am coming to a stop i then put the clutch in slow down a little more and while i am waiting the revs fall all the way to zero and the car stalls, which as far as i am concernd is quite dangerouse scary and a load of bs.

I told richard this and we decided i should bring it into the shop and that he would have it soughted in an hour. I was quoted for one hours work between $90-$130.

On monday afternoon i handed my car over and asked if he could look at,

-my apexi rev speed timer which had stopped working after my first service at all star performance tuning.

-if he could find a replacement screw for my hks ssbov.

-and if he could see if my apexi turbo timer could be brought back to life (it had stopped working a long time before i knew richard at all star tuning)

he said that would be fine if i could just write it done on a job sheet for him so he wouldnt forget which i did, waved good bye and left for home.

had a great sleep woke up at 0830 decided to wait until lunch to see if it was alright to pick my car up,.............the answer was no (this should have been my first clue).

I hung up and went about relaxing until 3pm i rang again asking if it was ready yet the lovely receptionist got richard on the phone who told me he was still working on the extra things i had mentioned i said no worries your the boss it was only going to be 90-130 dollars he replied no it wont we have done a bit more work than that i asked him how much it would cost he says he wouldnt know until he was finished i said i hope it isnt to much (having payed my bills and rego) i only had $400 and this was already budgeted he said thats fine i usually hold onto the cars until the bill is payed (you could not have hurt me more if you had cut my balls off with that response) i told him i was only quoted $90-$130 for an hours work and then asked how much it would cost thinkin he had the car for a 9 hour working day at $90 times 9 i was looking at $810 he said he would call me back with a price as soon as possible we hung up and i stewed no car for me means no job no job means no money no money means, you get the idea where i am going.

two minutes to five i get a call from the receptionist with the price of my work it wasnt between $90 or $130.........it was $264.

..........now i am a very nice guy i have no reason to go back to all star performance tuning i know........but i still will i still think he is a good guy, all the work he has ever done on my car was done flawlessly there is no denying that he is a great guy on one occasion he gave me a lift home when he didnt have to maybe he was just to busy to tell me the extras i asked him to look at would cost extra maybe he forgot. I am picking the car up tommorrow i will tell you how it goes.

this whole day has left me shaken not stired sorry for writing so much but i had to tell some one........what do you think i should do now?

You sound confused and very trust worthy of a guy who sounds like he is pulling ur chain.

You should of received a phone call about the extras. My tuner always rings before he does extras.

perhaps u arent ready to own a skyline?

they arent cheap and never will be

if you are unhappy with the service you have received or its price, tell them about it and just dont go back

Edited by Spook's_Skyline

to be honest that doesn't sounds that bad, the extra stuff is what you asked for so he can charge you for it, i would suggest learning how to do some of this stuff yourself it isn't hard and will save you alot of $$$

Get a written quote price and ask them to stick to it is my advice. If there are any problems or complications that are going to cost ANYTHING additional tell them you want to know about it BEFORE they go ahead.

Having said that his increase wasn't all that substatial and i'd probably accept it as the "usual mechanic" behaviour of under quoting.

Anyway, so all your issues are fixed now?

Shane I think you have made your point and thoughts clear. STFU...we get it.

Sounds to me like he told you $90-$130 before you asked him to do 2 or more hours of extra work.

He only appears to have charged you for 2 extra hours anyway.

I know there have been problems with the updated Haltech software so this may be a cause of your issues.

I don't think it's such a great idea to drag Richard's business through the mud...coz let's face it...it makes no difference to the story if you say workshop ABC instead. And if you have a problem with your car you can still get help or advice without stating opinions on an UNFINISHED story. Give Richard a chance to finish it and rectify any problems before naming names and causing waves.

Price sounds fairly reasonable compared to other known workshops, and richards is well in par esp on price wise where others want to charge upwards of $150.00 an hour, ever taken your car or heard someone take there car to say ummmmm autobarn for some sound gear installed, they charge per piece yes twice for a pair of speakers for install, so your price at the end of the day is reasonable, plus richard doesnt f$%k around if you ask him something he will tell you straight, and plus 99% of the time is charged at the right thing not like some workshops, oh you need this this and this add it to your car and left with the bill upmarked substantially, If you want to change tuners its your call at the end of the day theres no need to bring it here and say oh he stuffed it up oh he is bad oh this oh that, it will end in missery, if you want to save money DO IT YOURSELF. LEARN, then add the cost in hours spent doing it and look back and say oh you know what that price is reasonable.

Thankyou

A

Who installed your Haltech?? And how long did you think it would take, and how long did it actually take?? Was the Haltech new or did you supply it used? Did it come with the loom?

I love Allstar and as most will know, I plug them on here every chance I get. But if you have a problem with Richo's work or his pricing, talk to Richo!! I have never received a nasty surprise from Allstar, as I ask first!!!

Any deviation from the quote will be Ok'ed by me before work is done, and my Haltech took 5 days to install and tune and I stood and watched 3 of those days purely out of curiosity.

It should take that long and the 5th day is so a cold start on the dyno can be tuned. Any further tuning is purely fine stuff to get you more enjoyment out of your car.

And finally, if you don't like their service, go elsewhere and make sure you whinge about them too, as they will be worse.

And Shane, the ear rubbing wasn't tried but it will be. And the things I tried were the "nice" ones.......

Just a few cents...

Been using All Star since I purchased my Skyline (3-4yrs) and was recommended by them to install a Haltech. Must admit, should of keep the pennys and moved up to a Motec but hey we all can't get what we want all the time.

My car has been in for the last 6 months.. well I didn't need it as the missus had a work car but now she's changed jobs.. Anyways I have always had some minor issues with cold starts because the Haltech doesn't have a AFM, I have found a few stabs of the accelerator before starting and a couple once you've kicked it over will help. I had the same problems of stalling and idle bump all over the place.. Currently each morning I'll do what I just said and its fine and idles around 1000rpm.

My current problem is my Haltech is old now E6H and finding after my latest update.. Port and Polish, new manifold and sending the ECU back to Haltech so the get them to rectify the communications module for the laptop not working. The car will rev to 5500 without a hitch, once it hits 5500 the haltech ignition module voltage drops from 12v to 3.2v. Haltech no longer support my model ecu but Richard was good enough to get on the net and found US Drag Cars using the same model had the same problems and are using a simple resistor kit to get it fixed. Richard is an exceptional mechanic and when it comes to electronics and cars he is right up there. Think he has an electronic engineering degree, from memory.

Currently the car is set up as follows:

Stock Engine with port and polished headwork (just done, so unsure of additional benefit until put back on dyno)

ARE Intercooler with 2.5" Piping

Stock Turbo Hi Flowed 2 yrs ago, still looks and feels great, will hold 22-24 psi no prob, only using 15psi approx (need a ECB)

3.5" Dump to Tip Apexi N1 Exhaust, CAT only and one Dog/Muff at the tip.

Haltech E6H with Haltech Ignition Modules

750cc Nismo Injectors - should of only done 555cc Richo reckoned.. I source these from Nengun myself.

700hp in tank fuel pump with Sard Rising Reg.

Monsta Performance Manifold, however Richard believe the stock one is just as good. - Had to try ebay for something besides accessories :P

All else stock.. maybe a upgrade clutch supplied by All Star...

Richos last dyno before the port and polish was 240rwkw with 1100nm torque.

Also, I have found many other tuners send there work to All Star when they can't get it working either..

Hopefully after Thursday Richo will have my car running smooth and getting closer to that 300rwkw that I wanted to achieve when I first go the car.

Peace out...

P.S haven't found another tuner and the one I did have a chat to has moved (predetor Motorsports) whom where just down the road from Bob Romano.. who mind you is way way more exspensive.. $597 for a Service with no Dyno... All Star $300 with an Hours Dyno approx..

2 weeks to fix some dodgies, install a haltech and 'tune' it? (i use the word 'tune' very losely)

i think something's wrong with that :P

this is another story to file with the other ones about allstar

Yup, my story about AllStar was files ages ago... I can tell you I would never go to them.

My friend's R33 gtst with Haltech ecu was taken to them when they first opened by the person who installed the ECU. They may know how to tune a car, but if there are mechanical issues with the engine to diagnose, then they dont have a clue...

I have never recomended them to anyone and never will. If you dont like their service, you should take it somewhere else and get a 2nd opinion.

Thats about the first thing said here that I agree with...

(As it can be used in all circumstances in relation to anything)

I have said it about 236 and a half times now, but all workshops, yes all workshops will have good stories and bad stories...

I even heard a bad one about Matt Spry the other day... So they all cop it from time to time...

If you dont have trust in a workshop then you need to take it elsewhere, just remember you lack of trust should be self recognised. Not inforced by others via a forum, dont believe all you read about anyone or anything as there is always two sides to any story. Im not telling you to leave it at Allstar, Im saying if your uncomfortable then by all means please take it else where but whats to say your going to get better service???

Richard has always done good things for me, I have no complaints. If anything he does not charge enough as he is one of the cheapest places in town to get dyno time... He offers value for money and is a good solution for poor people like me... :D
