ok, basically you need to team up with someone else who's got $300 per week too. then look at a nice place in the forum on norton st leichardt. cost will be around $600 per week but you can get a nice place. 15 mins to the city by bus, lots of cafes restaurants, bars etc in that area.

I agree but youch Leichardt = $$$ ...

Also on that side of tthe city owning any car that's a potential thief target you would need a garage. NEED. i.e. I think Glebe etc have the highest rate of car theft in NSW, also lots of housing commission.

Check out housing in Darlington, Redfern, Chippingdale, Broadway, newtown, peterishem.

Those places are a little cheaper than leichart id assume .. shit hole of a place .. lol

Yes insurance sux there so make sure u insure ur car for somewhere else and find a garage .. some abo tried to steal my 34 cause the turbo timer was running .. thought had the keys in .. i dont think he'll try again

I did the opposite, moved from Syd to Melb (bought a place at Richmond)

Unfortunately Sydney is not going to be anywhere near as cheap as Melb... with rental yields on the way up it may be difficult to find something that suits owning your car within inner suburbs.

I'd recommend you take a trip up there and have a look at the areas you're interested in (do your research with reference to your budget.....), that'll help you get an idea.

don't forget he has $600 a week to play with for rent. a decent place in the italian forum on norton street will be between $450 and $600 and that will get you 2 or 3 bedrooms and 1 or 2 secure underground car spaces :P and all the cafes he desires. It's sydneys version of a cross between lygon st, carlton and parts of st kilda.

This leichardt place is starting to sound better and better, hows the public transport if i wanna get to martin place, I dont really like taking buses, they seem to never come, thats what its like here in melb anyway

The buses aren't too bad from there. I've caught one on the weekend from that location - not sure about during the day. Parramatta Road (biggest arterial road into the CBD) is hell during peak hour.

As a Melbournite, you have no idea what peak hour can be like until you've been to Sydney. I remember reading in The Age that you guys have complained about congestion in Melbourne - you guys should come to Sydney and then realise Melbourne's like a Sunday morning cruise in comparison.

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
    • I was more thinking so it doesn't flop around as much rather than for rotating it. Once you have the balance right, it should rotate well enough, depending on how much resistance there is on the pivot. I think you said the pivot point was on a bearing though didn't you?
