Hey all, At the moment i am having trouble trying to find insurance for my R33 GTST. At the moment i am with Unique car insurance but a few days ago i recieved a letter saying that they no longer insure under 25's (im 23)so at the moment i have until the 28th of may to find suitable insurance but nobody seem to want to insure under 25's anymore. Below is a list of who i have called and their responce

Just cars - they will only offer 14k which wont come close to replacing my car as it stands

Famous Car insurance - Dont insure under 25's anymore

Young and Cool - Dont insure cars with engine mods

Shannons - Dont insure under 25's

Torque Underwriting - Dont insure under 25's

as well as the common major companys that wont touch imports

So at the moment looks like if i cant find suitable insurance i will have to trade it for a normal car at a dealership.

If anyone has any ideas of who to call as i dont really want to trade my car.

PS - yes i have searched

Vigil is a part of unique who wont take under 25's

I will give GIO a call tommorow

When i called just they would give anymore then 14k :)

dont waist your time on gio they dont cover imports they will put you through a special division went through all the headakes they wanted $14000 just to insure me for one year now thats bull shit. i am with just car and i have 3rd party fire and theft and my car is insurd for $16000 and im 18 only costs $570 per year so if i ride it off or it gets stolen or theres a fire i get $16000 back and its a 32 you wont have any troble insuring a 33 because i had one insured for the same amount bro good luck

Did you try Suncorp ? they do imports, I'm with them and they came out best on price when I was looking

Not sure about the under 25's thing with them tho .. I'm a little older than that

Try Ryno.

I actually forgot about them the other day when we were chatting :)

Yep give Ryno a try.

I was looking for quotes for my V35 and they were the best by about $1000.

I was a bit worried cause there small, but a guy on LS1.com is going through a claim with them, and is nothing but rapt with the service.

On a side note, I lost it at Shannons yesterday. Cause the V35's are still quite new here, I had to go through a "special" quote, and in the end they tried to tell me that the agrred price they can insure me for was the FOB price of the car in Japan. That's almost 20k less than what it would cost me to replace the car should anything happen.

If you think Just Car insurance is going to pay out $16,000 if you write your R32 off on a 3rd party fire and theft policy you had better go re-read your policy.

They may pay you out if it gets stolen (provided you met the policy terms and conditions) and they may pay you out if someone sets it on fire but theres no way they'll pay you out if you crash it. That is the risky part of insuring a persons car and that is why a comprehensive policy is expensive.

If you get an import stolen under Just Cars Third Party Fire&Theft.. you will get about $4k back..

My mate's RX7 got stolen.. worth about $12k.. got back $4k. Think it was $5k payout, and then minus 1k or something for 'handing & processing' - basically I think depot fees, while the cops inspected it, etc.

Basically, if you want coverage for a theft, don't simply get 3rd party!

hey, another thing with justcar, if you cant get the right agreed value or the price seems high, ring back in 20 minutes. I got quotes ranging from 3200-2600 on my old gts-t and it took 4 phone calls to get it agreed for 14. I got quoted 2600 and 2200 for a my GTR (coming) as well, and agreed at 22k. I think alot depends on who u get on the phone.

i went through this as well when shannons pulled the plug on me...

just cars is your friend here Lee...

i am insured for 43gs for my car...which is less than how much i have spent...

but this way at least i have insurance.

i am a rating one driver, no claims for the last two years at all...still, no one would touch me

    • Ah right. Maybe my rb just loves chewing through batteries lol.
    • On the R34 can't you just unplug the IACV? This is the way I've always done it on the R33. Disconnect IACV, get it idling around 650rpm, and then do a power reset on the ECU to get it to relearn idle (factory ECU).   The big reason no one has touched on as to why you'd want to get the base idle right, is that it means the computer needs to make smaller adjustments to get a good idle at 700-750rpm.   Also, cleaning the IACV won't normally make the car suddenly idle lower or higher. The main issue with the IACV gumming up is that the valve sticks. This means the inputs the ECU gives, aren't translating to changes in air flow. This can cause idle choppy ness as the ECU is now needing to give a lot of input to get movement, but then it moves too far, and then has to do the same in reverse, and it can mean the ECU can't catch stalls quickly either.
    • 12.8 for a great condition, fully charged battery. If the battery will only ever properly charge to about 12.2V, the battery is well worn, and will be dead soon. When I say properly charge, I mean disconnect it from the car, charge it to its max, and then put your multimeter on it, and see what it reads about an hour later. Dieing batteries will hold a higher "surface charge", but the minutest load, even from just a multimeter (which in the scheme of things is considered totally irrelevant, especially at this level) will be enough over an hour to make the surface charge disappear.   I spend wayyy too much time analysing battery voltages for customers when they whinge that our equipment (telematics device) is causing their battery to drain all the time. Nearly every case I can call it within about 2 months of when the battery will be completely dead. Our bigger customers don't even debate it with me any more ha ha ha. A battery at 12.4 to 12.6 I'd still be happy enough with. However, there's a lot of things that can cause a parasitic draw in a car, first of which is alarms and immobilisers. To start checking, put your multimeter into amps, (and then connect it properly) and measure your power draw with everything off. Typical car battery is about 40aH. Realistically, you'll get about half this before the car won't start. So a 100mA power drain will see you pretty much near unstartable in 8 days.
    • Car should sit at 12.2 or more, maybe 12.6 or 12.7 when fully charged and happy. If there is a decent enough parasitic load then it will certainly go lower than 12.2 with time. You can't beat physics.
    • Ok guess I can rule out the battery, probably even the starter and alternator (maybe) as well. I'm gonna clean those leads and see what happens if it's still shit I might take it to an auto electrician. Unless the immobiliser is that f**king heavy, but it shouldn't be.  If I start the car every day, starts up perfectly never an issue. Isn't 12v low, shouldn't it be around 12.5v?
