it's not the under 25 part that's a problem (well it may be part of it). it's the usage. shanons don't cover daily drivers. they are more geared towards 'weekend cars'.

and I would go with the $14K from just cars. $14K and you could pretty much have your pick of 33 GTSTs on the market.

I think Just Cars would make decisions based on your driving record. I am only 23 and I got a S1 GTST 1995 model and they insurered me for nearly 18k on that car. But at the same time I have not previous record of speeding etc so that might have played a part in my agreed value.

PS the car is basically stock so thats fairly good I think.

Did you try suncorp as mentioned on the first page? We have our 33 + the wrx through them.. insure all mods. I directed a friend there the other day and I swear they do 21 and older... (he is 19/20) .......... 131155.

What shannons told me was that they dont cover daily drivers under 25 with skylines

I don't think that that's a hard and fast underwriting rule, because I got my insurance with Shannons at 21 (modded R33) and it's a daily (which is listed on the policy). Also I got my renewal letter in the mail last week, so they must still be happy enough to keep me on (now 22). Anyway I'd keep trying with different phone operators, you might get lucky - don't forget to highlight to them what an enthusiast you are (car clubs, magazines, events, forums etc). Might not hurt to see if you can find a direct contact thru the forums, too, as they might be able to help you out...

I just called Shannons back and they said that the no under 25's as well as daily driving was bought in 2 weeks ago.....i begged and pleaded but without any success.

looks like theres everyones answer now.

Tell Just cars they can keep their blue undies :)

But on a serious note, sounds like a case of beggars can't be choosers at the moment. Best bet would be to try and speak with someone at justcars and try and negotiate a higher agreed value in return for a higher premium.

Hahaha, you got jibbed hard then man. I rang them up, I got a quote which was FAR better than justcars, they also had a FULL list of mods emailed to them. Then I got all the stuff in the mail, read that. Rang them back. Asked for the agreed vaule, got that sorted. Then I pleaded with them to make me rating 1 as I am a defensive driving instructor. They said no, so I asked again. He went to his boss, then they gave me rating 1 with a saving of $300 a year. That and they know the car is in a carport not a garage, and its driven every day.

Dude, ring them back up again.

Yep give Ryno a try.

I was looking for quotes for my V35 and they were the best by about $1000.

I was a bit worried cause there small, but a guy on LS1.com is going through a claim with them, and is nothing but rapt with the service.

On a side note, I lost it at Shannons yesterday. Cause the V35's are still quite new here, I had to go through a "special" quote, and in the end they tried to tell me that the agrred price they can insure me for was the FOB price of the car in Japan. That's almost 20k less than what it would cost me to replace the car should anything happen.

Stoked to hear about ryno. I have a lot of cars with them and full faith in their claims service but to actually hear the same is always better! In the end they have a great policy, are bound by the same laws and it is a company that only seems to be run by enthusiasts so it can't be anything but good you'd think.

    • I have done smoke test and can’t see any leak on high or low side.   checked pump and fluid can flow through. Removed the high pressure from steering and did smoke test and same on low side, no leak.   puzzled. Thinking why if it was all ok it suddenly went as car was off road for a year. Don’t want to disassemble pump yet as i can see fluid / air( compressor) can flow through with no issues
    • Which manifold mate? Meanwhile......Mark is wondering how bonnet vents would look on the NC 🤣
    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
