Going Track Day In 2 Weeks.. What To Look Out For?

hey everyone. .

Im going track day in 2 weeks.

So thought i ask what to look out for and what to prepare before track day??

This is my first time

Basically things i have done:

1) new rotors +pads front and rear (had to replace them anyways)

2) Bought some 5.1 dot brake fluid.

3) new engine oil and plugs in already (well tomorrow)

So is there anything else i need to know/check

Im pretty sure someone made a thread about this a year ago.. Cant find it

have you got your extinguisher? also check the supp regs for the event you may be required to have a secondary bonnet restraint...

other than that looks like you are ready to go... I would check your tires as well, make sure you don't have any bits of nail or whatever stuck in them and check the pressures the day of the event make sure you are happy with them etc

I would also think about an alignment and perhaps a coolant flush if you haven't had either one recently

I like to have mine up on the hoist before I hit the track to make sure everything is tight and not leaking etc

other than that a fairly standard GTSt is pretty reliable on the track, you shouldn't have any problems with temps or anything... good luck!

Yeh, i would check tyres, condition of hoese in engien bay, fuel to/from filter and the radiator hoses.

Would also check that your windscreen wiper blades are ok. Sounds silly but you cant see shit at speed on the track if it starts raining. Also, a wheel alignment and suspension inspection from time to time is a good thing, when was your last?

Make sure they are properly heat cycled & bedded in.

2) Bought some 5.1 dot brake fluid.

Chuck that shit in the bin & get some Motul RBF600.

3) new engine oil and plugs in already (well tomorrow)

Clean your air filters. Go with a FULL tank of fresh petrol. You will be gobsmacked by how much it uses.

Get a GOOD tyre pressure gauge & use it. Take some blue insulation tape. A few basic tools (Spanners etc) can come in handy as can a small supply of oil/coolant & particularly power steer fluid. Also rags & some window cleaner is usefull more often than not.

Put a coat of wax on it before you go because it will finish the day covered in sh!t. Makes it alot easier to clean afterwards....

I go to the track with:

torch

wheel nut tools (lock nut tool if needed)

helmet

gloves

licence

shoes

coolant

oil

PS fluid

2 or 3 bottles of RBF600

some double sided tape

some race tape (aka 100mph tape)

blue point tyre pressure gauge

jack

spanners from 10mm to 19mm

few assorted other spanners and sockets

couple of rags

towel

cable ties (a few different sizes)

appropriate clothing (full length non-flamable)

tool box to put it all in.

that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Hey Baron are the gloves for driving, or is it just a gay pride thing?

Don't forget take something to drink & something to eat. Take a hat firstly to hide the helmet hair you will be suffering from & secondly to stop the widows peak getting sunburned.

The rags are handy to mop up all the PS fluid that Nissans habitually piss all over the engine bay.

Oh, and try not to stick it in the wall as that can tend to ruin your day.

yea buying one tomorrow from repco for 20 bucks.. Cams approved it says!!

Btw what pressure should i run? or is it personal choice in the end? or trial n error?

I will just run standard street pressure (30-32 front, 30 rear)

Btw one of my rear tyres does have a nail in it.. OMG hope the tyres dont pop!! shouldnt coz its been in there for months, and my car is a daily driver..

Or should i go check it out a tyre shop and get it out?

My rear shocks are leaking (well driver side only), but i bought some standard 2nd ones, so will be replacing them soon. Alignment seems fine..

Will go and get my adjustable castor rod checked to see if its perfect still..

Yup its some motul stuff i bought from just jap.. Doesnt say the model number on it tho

N yup wil be taking some tools down as well..

Also i fitted a adjustable sway bar in the rear.. That should help me a bit, with still standard suspension (just lowered springs)

For the power steering res - get one of those arm sweat bands that people use for tennis/gym etc and put that over the p.s. res - so if it boils (if you drive hard it will) the band will soak most of it up

other than that - baron's covered it!

Get the nail pulled outa your tyre and a pull through patch thingo put in. tyre shops do em takes very little time effort money etc

Much less chance of a flat then leaving a nail in there

Tyres get hot nail will get hotter its just gotta be a bad thing

Track much more stressful on tyres than driving down the shops n stuff

just my 2c worth

either that or got out do burnouts till tyres pop an get new ones then rotate em to the front

sidd - power steering fluid - sorry - I didnt relise I left that out!

The arm/wrist sweat bands people use for tennis and going to the gym etc?

I use them for my power steering resiviour - it soaks in the fluid if it boils - which most of the time it will boil!

mine boils - must be a nsw thing cause its common with a few of us!

It's generally more from sloshing around rather than boiling over. Mainly a drifting thing

Mine used to boil over all the time before I put the cooler on. I think it came from an R33 Auto? Can't remember but it was cheap.

I have seen ppls brake fluid boil before.. mine never it does even after braking hard.. hmm YAY!!

Ok - mine....

passenger footwell, on plastic cover which covers the ECU - holds well and is secure

if you are going on the pizza cruise tonight in Syd I can show you.

Some others I have seen have been right in front of the drivers seat on the floor
