Stock BOV & High boost

i've heard the stock bov on a skyline can handle about 1bar of boost right?

what would happen if you exceeded that, say to 1.5bar

going for a dyno run on friday and want to run 1.5 but then will wind it down quite a lot for everyday driving, so the question, is it alright to exceed the 1bar limit occasionally?

Stock BOV will hold move than 1 bar.

As boost goes up on one side the side thats actually holds it shut sees exactly the same amount. So as you up the boost the pressure to hold it closed goes up too.

stock bov will hold upto 18psi if your spring is in good working order!

My stocker was leaking at basically stock boost. It depends on the condition yours is in, but from what others have said, it should be fine.

By my calculations 1.5bar is approx 23psi. right or worng?

So according to the answers here that is more than the BOV can handle theoretically.

Will it do any damage if i pump 1.5bar through it on 1 occasion?

what turbo are you planning to run 1.5 bar through? and constant 1.5 bar in the engine and the pistons and rods are not gonna be happy either, it will be time for forged pistons and short penned rods. Try use a turbo where around 1 bar will give u the power u want!

Oops sorry for the bad info Jimbo2000. I was thinking 15psi. it's funny how you read one thing and then keep reading it the same way in your head from then on.

Yeah mate, i wont be running that high boost much of the time, only on the dyno and possibly if i ever take it to the drags.

turbo is a bit of a mystery, another reason i'm taking it to the place its being tuned is to find out.

its either a t04 or GT30.

it is rated a 600hp though

I don't think that you will have a problem with the bov leaking.

it is more the fact that when the bov has to actually "BLOW OFF" it might not be able to handle THAT much pressure.

so you might get the compressor surge sound (fluttering.)

if you want, I have a NEW GFB HYBRID bov for sale.

it plumbs back and vents to atmosphere at the same time so you don't have the back fire issues..

and they can handle ALOT more than 1.5 Bar boost.

yes it makes a pssh sound.

no you can't just say it's a plumb back because there is a entry for the plumb back and on the opposite side there is a trumpet for the atmo.

there is a mod you can do to it to allow it to run 30psi. Be on one of the stock BOV threads I'm sure (the link to the mod website).

Im running stock BOV at over 1bar on hi-flow turbo and it isnt leaking at all.

I dunno how much air it can vent though at this boost thats my only worry.

Ive done the mod that alows 30psi. it works, but makes that car a pig to drive at part throttle. I wouldn't recommend it.

I've done the mod to my bov.

i have no problem with driving at part throttle.

it's definitely better than stock bov in anyway I could think of.

I WOULD recommend it.
