i have to 2x 10's at the moment, entry level eclipse SVC 200rms per, reveiving 250rms per, in a total of 1.9cuft and they sound fantastic, consistant 137dbs! upgradign to 2 Soundstream 10's(750rms) they will be fiberglass in the corners of the boot to retain the centre boot space.

fiberglass enclosures are your friend!

Please don't quote dbs unless it was done proffesionally...

i have run (not all at the same time) 1 x 10", 1 x 12", 2 x 10", 2 x 12", and to be honest there isn't a lot in it. a single 12 will sound better than a single 10" but once you go double they sound similar. i ran 2 10's in a festiva and if you cranked it up you could make the engine stall. it would make you feel sick after about 1 song

Im assuming standard battery and tiny wires with horrible ground points in a plastic car? :(

for the record i have run (not all at the same time):

1x10 (1 setup)

1x12 (3 dif setups)

2x12 (5 dif setups)

3x12 (1 setup)

1x15 (2 dif setups)

2x15 (1 setup)

I have a CDT 12" sub in the boot tucked into the drivers side corner, very small im pretty sure my ICE guy said it was 1.2 cubic foot enclosure. Not 100% sure, but i believe this is about the smallest enclosure you can put this sub into. Awesome sound quality without too much big boomy bass, im pretty sure it would be a lot louder with a bigger enclosure though. BTW it runs of a single DD 1000W Amp, enough kick for 2 of these subs.

Just look for a sub that does what you want, check the specs you would be surprised the kind of enclosures that some subs require.

from my experience it depends what speakers you have, in order to match for the bass, my 10" alpine x sound great at low volume but drops off very quickly as its increased trying to keep up with the 4 amped 6" speakers

im currently running 2 12" boston G2's, they are exelent take up a bit of room but i swap back to my 10" for trips out of town for the weekend

Good point about the speakers. I have CDT 6.5 Splits up front and Alpine Type R Coaxials in the back running off a Lanzar Amp. I find as long as you have the ability to adjust the volume on your sub/s then turning the volume down is not so much an issue. I am frequently reaching for the sub control as i listen to a range of different music styles. Im lucky my headunit can control the bass, as well as having the volume control for my sub up front. I imagine sound deading your boot would do a lot to keep the bass "in cabin", (warning off topic) which is something i will doing soon, as my next upgrade is a set of Hertz Mille MLK2 up front, move my CDTs to the parcel shelf and run the 4 speakers off a 4 Channel Amp, looking at the Audison Vrx 4.300. Also wouldnt a 12in sub be able to still move more air at a lower volume?

Basically the Short answer is this...........

Go for what ever sounds best to you. No-one can tell YOU what sounds good to YOU.

If you like the Punch from 2 10in Subs then go for that, Or if you think that 12's sound sweeter then that's what you want.

Personally I have always prefered the Low Rumble from a 15in, but that may have to go by the wayside when I finally get my 34 (Space may not allow it).

The general rule of thumb is the smaller the speaker, the quicker it can react to signals.

The Choice also depends on the type of music you will listen to.

Hopefully this may have given you something to mull over.

    • Nope, but they are definitely one of the default choices. Well established.

    • Haha actually I did join back then under a different email address,  I couldn't re-activate my account so made a new one! I didn't post much anyway so not missing out on much. Amazing to see how the value of the cars and parts has changed over the years, also ACT section appears to be dead now.
    • Thanks... It's in pretty good condition overall, probably due to not being drifted/tuned however being a daily driver has taken its toll. Had 100k on the clock when I got it, up to 180k now. Unfortunately it's not 100% dent free, it's got a small dent on FLH side and broken indicator from where I hit a small kangaroo at high speed. If you look at closely at pic #5 you might spot the dodgy trailer light repair my old man and I rigged up as temporary repair! - It's still there due to a combo of needing the car as daily driver and then too lazy/busy to fix properly. I've a couple of other minor accidents accidents as well but nothing major. One required a new front bar and unfortunately the smash repairer ordered the normal gtst one and not the aero bar. Needed the car back asap so just went with it, regretted ever since.
    • I can't believe that anyone is foolish enough to believe that the base maps are for any other purpose than to drive the car up onto the trailer/truck or gently creep it to the dyno. No matter how good they are, they can never be any better than the factory maps**, and only the foolish trust those on a significantly modified setup. **Yeah, yeah. I know there's also the difference between factory maps being fixed to certain injector sizes and MAP/AFM/VE relationships, and the likely aftermarket ECU base maps being better able to handle the sorts of changes that would render a stock ECU dangerous, like different sized injectors. But let's just ignore that for the moment, because the principle is still the same.
