No worries gjb977,

Correct me if I'm wrong, unless there's something new the Microtech can't do a proper FEEDBACK boost control liek say a MoTec, however it can do a simple "electronic" bleeder arrangement that can be controlled from within the cabin with a trim pot or variable resistor.

I have a plug-in LT-12 and I optioned the trim pot with mine and it works well but it does not maintain boost at the exact level all the way across the rev range like a dedicated EBC would do.

Sounds like you are cinsidering a new EBC anyway so go for it. Have a look at the new e-Boost from Turbosmart, very very easy to set up apparently since it's design by Aussies, you won't have the trouble/complexity as with some of the Jap stuff.

Freebaggin, That is the computer I'm getting. It took 9 weeks to get from the time of order !!! How much better was your car in performance/general running compared to the original?

e-boost <- thats the one I beeing advertised pretty heavily.

Rob77, thanks for the advice. It is a slow process, you don't realize how many threads there are till you start going through 'em !

The Microtech works real well. My car was the first to get the plug-in LT-12 for R33s, it was Tim Possingham from RPM Performance Centre (www.horsepowerinabox.com, www.rpmperformancecentre.com.au) here in Adelaide that developed it for me as a customer as I wanted a plug-in ECU but did not want a Power FC. Good for future power upgrades and data logging with Laptop, had it for over a year now.

The performance gain over stock ECU was phenominal by giving the motor a proper tune at higher boost levels. But the success of it all comes down to the tuner and his dyno and road tuning skills. I went from 170rwkW to 200rwkW just with ECU and boost increase from 11psi to 14psi. Fuel consumption will go up due to the Microtech by about 0.5-1L/100km.

But any decent aftermarket ECU will open up the potential of the RB25.

That sounds great. After the 9 week wait, you can imagine how keen I was to get the LT-12 installed. IT bloody broke my heart when I got the phone call saying my turbo was rooted.

The tuner said that is was the best thing I could possibly do now. (without spending a fortune) It's Terry from Paramount. He currently owns the 2nd fastest 6 in Australia - 9.7secs. He wants to run my car at 14psi.

They sell alot of Microtech's but they don't put them in Rex's.

BTW, How does your car go against a stock WRX or a stock STi ?

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
