Hi just wondering if you are implying that you have to have a turbo or supercharger to be a performance car? funny caus i have diffinitly blowen away a few R32,R33 turbos since i have upgraded my beast, at first it was a bit sluggish but once i opened the intake/exhaust, placed a interceptor air/fuel adjuster and removed the fan it its way better, next will be dyno tune and after i save enuff i will be bolting on a charger unit, but hey im happy in the mean time. i have a low Ks sexy looking car which is the mintest car I have owned.... performance aint always a turbo/charger, and it aint all bout speed anyway. NOT SAYING THAT YOU WERE IMPLYING ALL THAT MATE cheers

Nah I wasnt implying that as I contributed to the thread from spunky monkey defending NA skylines as I do like them alot but I guess the comment was more of a personal experience from me as going from one to the other, but if I decided to put the money into this one as I did the other it would be better.

Sounds like you have done some decent work to your car and would be interested to see your dyno results when you get them please? or perhaps a few pics as I love looking at how other people have styled there R34's

I have to disagree with those who say that the parents buying a first car for their children is a bad move. My parents paid part of my first car, while I payed the rest.

I still have it now, but am looking to sell it to move up to a Skyline now that I know how to drive. It's a 1989 Toyota Corolla SX, 100kW at the flywheel. Plenty, if not too much power for an L plater.

See, the thing isn't that his parents want to buy him a car, it's that they want to buy him a car that is a weapon in the hands of anyone without the experience to control it.

Mate, my advice is wait until you've got experience, done a defensive driving course, and saved some money yourself, before you go off buying such powerful cars. Not only will you save yourself money (insurance, repairs/work, fines), but you'll also save yours and other peoples lives.

kids these dys think they can drive after a few lessons and believe they control any sort of performance car whether it be turbo or non turbo. its all for show "look what i have".........."look how i wrap myself around a tree"

its easy for kids to say..."no no i wont drive silly" give them a few mates from school and i betcha that attitude changes very very quickly.

it really pisses me off how kids can think they can drive just cause they are getting on their p's. big f****n deal. get a $5000 car, and learn to drive properly, get something thats gonna be bit forgiving, and wont mind they odd accidental reverse ito something, or whatever.

a skyline is too much of a precious thing to be placed in the hands of the inexperienced driver.

Well put Ben. I agree the problem isnt that his parents want to buy him a car, that that they will buy him a weapon instead of a nice safe Brand new Ford Focus or a nice safe E39 BMW of the same value.

My advice if your parents want to spend $35k on a car for you, buy a Subaru RS Impreza, or a 2nd hand IS200 if you really want RWD, learn how to CONTROL a car not just drive it, any moron can drive a car. Then buy your Skyline.

I went through 2 Commodores, 2 Corollas and and a Celica (not in order) before buying my R33 GTST at age 21 with a full licence.

All a kid on their Ls needs is a beater. I rekon I made a great choice of a car to learn in. Granted, I did modify it, but it was still a lot more safer in my hands than a R34 or a S2000 would have been.

What pisses me off is people that think you shouldn't have a fast car to begin with. It's only as fast as your right foot. There is yet to be a car made that has too much power and there never will be.

It's simple less throttle = less speed.

We are such a draconian country it's unbelieveable.

My dad and uncles were drving and riding bikes 30 years ago that had a lot of go, and they certainly didn't stop and turn as well as cars do nowadays. And they are alive. You should be able to drive whatever car you like.

i work for honda, we get heaps of s2000s in and they are great cars, they never break down and are extreamly reliable although s2000 are over the power to weight in melb so if your in melb you will get dicked at one stage

skylines are also very reliable but they are genrally modifyed more and when they are modified parts break, and sometimes you take a gamble on how its been treated in japan. i bought a good 33 but there are people out here that have got dud's and that would really shit me.

ANd just to put my 2 cents in, you can be the best driver in the world but your sharing the road with some F****G idiots, yes you can control yourself with your right foot not to be a dickhead, but without expirence having that extra power there can be a bad thing if some dickhead next to you decides to cut you off or swerves at you and your not expecting it, thats where accidents happens

and my parents bought my 1st car for my 94 verada and i didnt respect that car anywhere neer as much as my skyline that i saved up for and respected 1000 times more (that being until it went threw a hole grrrr)
