To become a blood donor people need to be in good general health, weigh more than 45kgs and be between 16 and 70 years of age.

Generally, if you have low or high blood pressure they will not let you donate. However you can come and try on the off chance you wont have low BP on the day!!!

Oh ok, thanks for that. I'll pass for everything except blood pressure (I'm not exactly sure what my pressure is, but my GP says it could be a bit low). I might book it sometime in the future and just hope my pressure's all normal.

There is a FAQ on the donateblood website about blood pressure. It's actually about HIGH blood pressure, but I think the answer is pertinent:

Medicines for the control of blood pressure are acceptable, providing your blood pressure is adequately controlled and stable.

If you are on meds to control your blood pressure, you may still be an acceptable donor. Check the actual problem with your doctor, then ring the Blood Bank (13 14 95) and ask them.

the mobile unit is coming to ashburton rec on friday the 3rd of august which i'm booked in for at 1:10pm if anyone is interested :)
