bought a turbosmart dual stage boost controller

why? easier to install over an electronic ebc

low and high boost in cabin switch

does the same job for half the cost, even cheaper second hand

and im cheap rofl, my cars not worth it

Turbotech.

40 bucks delivered to door.

Had a few dramas with it at first, but is tops.

Holds boost well good.

Takes 20 secs to install.

For me it was a heaps smarter idea than getting some electronic device 10+ times more expensive

but but the electronic ones have colorful lights and features ull prob never use or know what they mean :) lol on that note i have the power fc boost controller kit just coz i have a power fc going in. Otherwise id just get one of those bleeders or hi-low stage manual controller.

Had a Turbosmart bleeder (it died) then a GFB bleeder and finally changed to a Greddy Profec B spec II and will never go back to a bleeder again, boost comes on alot harder between gear changes, holds boost nice and consistant. Also I got sick of having to dive into the engine bay everytime I wanted to change boost settings.

I just wanted a set and forget sort of thing. Bit of jinin around to get it to where i want it.

Plus as listed above, i dont want all sorts of lights and things buzzing around the joint. Probably gimme a headache lol

If you are chasing big power then go for an ebc. If you are only going for mild mods then you can just stick with a bleed valve.

In my opinion the ebc( i have profec B II) is much better than a bleed valve.

The bleed valve would spike on my setup ( Had turbosmart dual stage). It was good at holding up to 12psi then after that the boost would spike.

Also with the ebc you can adjust the gain setting and start boost setting. This will let your boost hold more steady, and also make boost come on earlier. rather than a bleed valve which you can only adjust how much it will bleed.

This is from my experience and my recommendation is if you got the cash go the ebc. I've only used Profec B II so i can't comment on other ebc's.

If you got stock turbo and plan to keep it stock, then a bleed valve will be fine. If you are going for aftermarket turbo, then get the EBC.

Hope that helps.

I had a Turbotech ballvalve and upgraded to a ProfecB II as I was given it for my b'day.. the ebc shits all over the old turbotech one.. as has been said you can adjust the gain and teh start etc. I run low setting as base boost (0% increase) but with the wastegate held shut till 9psi and high setting is 30% increase (gives me about 13psi) with the gate shut till 11psi. Definately comes on harder with the gate held shut, if I turn the ebc off I notice the difference. It was also pretty easy to install with probably the hardest bit being getting the cables/hose into the cabin and routing them to the top of my steering wheel :)

I have a hybrid EBC, the solenoid thats used is a MAC solenoid that holds boot and wont fluctuate AT ALL..

i've noticed that Apexi avcr, the e-boost and some other ebc (that i cant think of the name at the moment) use the same solenoids... just different stickers/colours but all the same..

for $250 it was the best bang for your buck i baught on my car.. also i think it comes on boost harder and faster...

my 2c

Did you block the little hole in it? or does it hold boost good with it open?

I have a profec e01 in my car realy happy with it easy to set up and install and boost doesn't spike at all.

+1 i got one from slide for good dollars!

holds perfect boost on cold nights, although had a turbotech one when the car was more stock which was good too

same EBC, same cost, no spikes, holds boost nice and steady, and has 2 settings. ie one for high for me and one for low whenever someone else might drive the car ie Mum lol.

LOL and don't forget the overboost feature... only thing is that it has no fancy screen

+1 for Profec B II here. Excellent EBC, I have previously used a turbotech as well.

The turbotech is great bang for your buck and I'd get it just to up the boost temporarily until you could afford an EBC. Wouldn't definately prefer EBC over a MBC as most of the people above have said: the ability to control how long the wastegate stays closed before opening up is a godsend, it makes the boost come on MUCH harder, or softer if you prefer. :P

    • Hello, I'm trying to make this thread basically the thread with all the answers to common questions regarding specifically the RB20 DE NEO + T engine, that comes in the R34. Answers will and only should be provided by those who have done this conversion or actually have some relevant real life experience please. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any so other members can answer. I feel like this thread is really needed, especially with more Americans buying (unknowingly going to regret it too) rb20 neo r34s. My first question being - What do you guys use for tuning? I have purchased a haltech elite 2500 Plug and play kit for the rb25det NEO because the ecu plug is the same, but I am unsure if any of the pins would need to be repined to match. Second question that I see asked very often - After this conversion, did you install the boost solenoid/ actuator? I see many people doing a + T setup on their rb20 NEOs while running stock RB25DET NEO ECUs with no tune. I am wondering how they are going about doing that and consistently abusing the car because many of these people have had these untuned setups running for a very long time. That was my original plan, but my engine cuts out at 5 psi of boost using the stock ecu with no tune and no boost solenoid/actuator.
    • interesting. ive read and heard otherwise over the past year. ive been doing this +t conversion on a rb20 neo using all oem rb25det neo parts including the ECU, and im having engine cut out issues when I hit around 5 psi of boost. Everywhere/everyone ive asked has told me its because I never wired in a boost solenoid/actuator to the ecu, so the ecu isn't getting the right signal once it hits 5 psi of boost, causing the engine to get shut off.
    • Mate, I take this thread in random directions on occasion myself, so no foul I'm a old fan of MCM anyway, I like their banter, and enjoy most of the stuff they do
    • Something strange is happening. I didn't touch the car since we last spoke on the forums. Yesterday was the first day of good weather, so i took it out for about 2 hours. It started up on first crank every time about 5 times total. I literally didn't do anything to do the car.
    • I purchased this one. Very well priced and works great. I was rough with it to see if it will last and had no issues.  Teslong Two-Way Articulating Borescope with Light, Industrial Endoscope Inspection Camera with Articulated Probe, Flexible Mechanic Fiber Optic Snake Scope Cam for Wall Automotive Engine Inspect-5FT : Amazon.ca: Industrial & Scientific
