Helllllllo everyone!

Well for sometime i have been planning on getting a new turbo... with all this turbo talk in this section i thought i would ask a few questions...

I have been saving up for the hiflow t3/t4 turbo for sometime now, but have recently stumbled upon some well priced GT30 turbos... not official as yet but hopefuly getting a good price above 2g though...

What are your thoughts on the GT30 turbo? i think this is the one with the wastegate .... other than that what else will have to be done? any flanges have to be reshaped or anything?

I am currently on 275rwhp, with standard injectors and fuel pump, obviously if i do go the GT30 a new fuel pump will be needed and injectors.. which one of those two will have problems 1st? around what hp @ wheels? I do have SAFC and ITC combo so air fuel and timing should be ok.

Do you guys like the idea of a GT30? is the spooling down low in the rev range? also what is a nice psi to have the turbo running at with all standard internals for my gtst?

Sorry about all the questions guys... Some of you WA boys know i have been looking into this for a while but need to make sure i am getting best bang for $$$ value... with the GT30 i can then also sell my old turbo aswell

Hey DAN!!!!

Well i got a Garrett GT30 rated to 600HP, its externally gated and you will definitely need a new manifold!! I just picked up a second hand Trust item, paid a little more than i wanted, but its in really good nick... I'm getting the manifold and exhaust housing ceramic coated...

I've already moved to top feed GTR 440cc injectors, if they are too small then i can get cheap RX7 550cc injectors...

Because the GT30 can flow so much air you will definitely need a bigger AFM, maybe you should ditch the AFM and go MAP, like me!!! :D

Also from what i've heard, running at the same boost you should see about an extra 75-100rwhp... I'm planning on running no more than .7bar, last thing i wanna do is fold a con rod and have it say hello out the side of the block... I'm also thinking about a metal head gasket... Then i could run a little more boost...

There was a guy on one of the other threads in here who mentioned he had a GT30 - might be worth doing a search and asking him what he thinks - from the sounds of things he was pretty happy.

If you dont intend doing injectors just yet, get a fuel pressure reg as you are probably close to the limit of your injectors at the moment. And get a bigger fuel pump too. Last thing you want to do is lean out too much.:D

Metal head gaget probably a good idea if you want to wind up the boost safely, and arent doing an internal rebuild. But ultimately depends on what sort of rwkw figure you are chasing.

Thanks for the responses guys!

So how much would we be looking for all this then... I want to stay as close to 3Grand as possible as with new job money is tight.... maybe for now i might just get the turbo but run it at 6psi or something then in couple of months get fuel pump then injectors (or fuel regulator) then the manifold. anyone know where i can get a bigger AFM from? any perth boys getting one in soon? if so i will give you some cash aswell!

Now alan if i were to pull an extra 75 - 100 rwhp which would be sooooooo sweeeet! wouldn't the pistons go and the engine start saying bye bye? or will the new manifiold stop all that? how much toget that done?

If you guys had 3g what would be your point of attack from here? I have piggy back ecu FMIC cam gear. blah blah the usual light to medium mods but kinda wanna start getting into the 300 rwhps and most of all that 300 has to be RELIABLE!!! as an everday driver i don't want anyting to blow!

Woody are you coming around the northern suburbs in the near future? if so gimme a call and i will grab the EBC off you, can you please for me track down some install instructions for the older style apexi avcr i have limited net access now!

Apparently its all good!!! But i wouldn't run anymore than .7bar until you get a metal head gasket...

Your engine will be fine, just depends on how agressive you tune it...

Let me put it this way, it cost me 3gs for my turbo, 1400 for my trust manifold, 700 for wastegate, then some extra for install and exhaust mods...

Well i haven't got any plans for a trip up north yet... Trust me man, you won't need instructions... Theres like 2 wires for power, a cable for the solenoid and thats it...

The GT28 might be a go too, has less lag than the GT30 and will probably let you take the stock injectors and airflow meter to there limits without having to upgrade (220-230rwkw). The SAFC should still be good up to this stage too, the GT30 will make more power than the GT28 but mainly in the higher rpm range, I feel the GT28 would be a better street turbo as it comes on boost similar to the stockie but with more power through all the rpm range, it does require an adapter plate to bolt to the manifold ($190) but I think the GT30 does as well coz of the large .70 comp cover.

Also you'll find that a stock turbo @12psi would probably be faster than a GT30 @6psi so if you can't afford the injectors, ECU, AFM etc.. then maybe wait till you can if you really want the GT30.
