Hey everyone i just received my new hks type s intercooler. :D I was thinking of having a go at installing it myself to save money. Does anyone have any avdice or things i should know before i install it. Is it a fairly easy job or would just be better for me to have it installed at a workshop? Thanks for help

Cheers

I've never seen an intercooler kit except in bits and pieces on various sellers' websites. Is all the piping already welded together? If not you'll have to weld it up yourself.

Not knowing much about kits I would have to say it all depends on whether or not the kit is targetted towards the DIY market. Going off a gut instinct I would say it isn't, and you may be better off getting a workshop to do it. Should only take a couple of hours if that.

FLIP - it's definitely worth doing yourself if you're squeezed for cash - im a student so there wasnt the option of paying someone to do it.

I know 3/5ths of f@ck all about the mechanical side of things but managed to sort it out and id recommend it to anyone. Id never do it again tho - 12hrs it took hehe and ive still got front bar rubbing on pipework issues...

Goodluck!!!

Yeh I have installed 2 intercooler kits for myself and a mate. It is quite easy, however for someone like me it was time consuming.

It all bolts up, except you have to drill a 3 inch hole in the front right of the engine bay. That takes a bit of guess work to get exactly right. Another thing is the front bar modifications. If you don't have a 400r or equivalent then obviously the cooler wont fit behind it. For me that was when an air-saw came into its own. Awesome piece of gear, couldn't have done it without it.

I would recommend doing it yourself, and if you got the polished pipework with the s type HKS kit then I would be very careful as it scratches like an motherf#$#er!!!

hmmm.... can some r32 gtr owners tell me, if i bought a japanese intercooler, larger in thickness only, would any modifications be required to the front bar? and is it benficial to change the piping in the gtr as most kits come with cooler only.

well i finally got it installed. It sure feels good to do it yourself. :D The hardest part was cutting the bumper and the front brace behind the bumper. I was so happy to have it finished but just my luck i must have done something wrong. its hard to explain whats wrong. Whenever the turbo starts to boost it stops itself and sounds as if its leaking. (It makes the spool up sound but theres no power) I checked the rubber hoses but they are all connected properly. i dont know what it is.
