When do you need a fuel regulator?

Like many people I'm going for Sard 550c + Bosch 044 pump.

So my question is what does a reg. do - do I need it at all?

Doesn't seem so with a 044.

You will need an adjustable fuel pressure reg when your injectors are starting to reach the limit of their efficieny (about 80%) and you want to squeeze a bit more out of them. Usually good for an extra 10% or so.

With 550cc in 6 cyl shoud be good for 550 bhp, if you were after 600bhp, an adjustable fuel pressure reg would be the go, or bigger injectors. If you were after 650 you would have to consider new injectors, or extra staged injectors if your ECU can handle it as it would be a bit beyond the fuel pressure reg.
