Skyline As A Gt

So most of you on here drive a GT car. You might not even be aware of what that actually means though, GTs (grand tourers, gran tourismo) were born early on in motoring history as a car which could be driven right around the country (or europe more accurately). It was designed to have a nice big engine, some fairly comfortable seats, and enough space to chuck a bit of camping gear etc. The japanese sort of reinturpted that to mean, a race car. I was thinking today about how i'm loath to drive my car (32 gtr) for more than a few hours straight. I realised I couldn't really even justify why, I guess I get nervous that the bugger is gonna spit out a turbo or something 3 hours from no where. Makes me reflect on just how little GTing I do in my car. That said this year I drove my car around tassy on some awesome roads, and some shockers and didn't cry too much about it. So how much GTing do you do? and why?

Mine is a daily - it sees around 600k's a week just getting to and from work, then work k's are on top

I bought it intending to be a daily driver and do a bit of trackwork - i feel that the skyline is a great overall package compared to previous cars ive owned - smooth engine, plenty of in cabin space, nice size boot. (Also owned a 180sx and fc rx7)

I dont mind racking the k's on it - lets face it - most cars brought over from japan arent genuine k's, so why worry anyway? As long as regular maintenence is done it should see trouble free motoring.

Planning a few long drives soon - cant wait

I reckon you need another reason as to why you wouldnt drive interstate. Well, mine is because of the comfort levels of the car. I wouldn't want to be sitting in a full bucket with the exhaust droning mixed with the smell of petrol and stiff suspension for more than a few hours. Sad to admit it but my car has become a bit undriveable. The max i'd drive one way is maybe 2 hours

I drive a R33 Series 2, and love taking it on roadtrips regularly... whether they be short trips (200kms) up to Shoal Bay from Syd, or longer ones (500kms+) even further up North.

Despite the rock chips on the front bar / bonnet and the additional km's, I figure I bought the car to drive it where I wanted, when I wanted... If not I just get the feeling I'm saving the car for the next owner to enjoy..

i love a good road trip, the drive to DECA victoria was really aweseom, took scenic routes etc. I use my car everyday and i'm averaging around 3000km a month!

Its strange isnt it, I drive my car daily and do about 800ks a week I guess, intially I didnt like doing that many k's but when you think about the value your getting, I get to drive a nice looking comfortable fast car everyday its worth it..if you add up how many k's you travelled and how much you actually lost when you sell it im sure its a large ratio. meh!

Drove to Melbourne once, 9 hours straight on hard coilovers and an droning muffler. Resulted in some serious back pain the next day. Not a pleasant experience.

I often drive my car for no reason at all then to enjoy it.

Probably at least once a week I'll go up in the hills by myself to stretch its legs. On the way back from uni I'll often take the longer way just so I can enjoy driving it.

Have no problem driving my car 200km's to work, only problem is current tune struggles on the 200km's back

previous to powerfc & tune got 500km's a tank so 400km round trip to work was no biggy

Just to hard to get BP Ultimate out in the sticks and dont find that octane booster really does the trick

good to see a most ppl are using there car.

i work with alot of people from other parts of the world (won't single anyone out) but they're a bunch of pansies if you ask me. We are Aussies, we should be able to ride around our great country bare back on a horse. No AC, no cup holders and no heated seats. If you can't put up with an uncomfortable seat, hard ride, loud exhaust and fumes then harden up, move to the USA or buy a caprice. Geez even my 60 year old dad loves coming crusing.

i work overseas for 3 to 5 months at a time, during which i rarely drive. I miss my GTR. When i get home i do at least 4 or 5, 12 hour days and at least 2 hours every other day just driving around with no destination in mind. just driving around cause it's fun. i've clocked up 5000kms in the month i get off the last too times i've been home.

My comany car if a POS hilux. Hmm hilux or GTR which one would i prefer.

so to answer your question, yes i'd drive my GTR anywhere provided they was a good fuel supply along the way.

I just took mine on a 1600KM round trip.

Wasn't too bad except for my mining lacking power issue (Slightly leaking pipe I think) and I had to back timing out a touch, so sitting at 100KM/H it wasn't in its perfect torque range.

But hell, it's fun sitting on 120km/h and when someone speeds up to stop you overtaking them, cracking the throttle slightly further and not even giving them a second chance to block you!

I love my car, long trips, short trips, it's a blitz to drive.

I just did about 100km in my Dads commo on the highway and I was SCREAMING! What a bucket of shit to drive. Sloppy susp, no torque, dodgy auto box.

Give me the skyline anyday with the button clutch.

Only issue I had was getting the seat right for comfort, I had it setup to "drive" the car...

the more i modify my car the less "Grand Touring" it becomes. any performance upgrade usually means a loss in comfort and a small amount of reliability most of the time for me.

stocker i could drive it all day...wouldnt be as fun though..ha.

My 33 sedan is daily driven. 400 kays a week to work and back. Then are the weekend drives that I always go on. Last year i made at least a dozen 1400km round trips from Mackay to Cairns (Northern Queensland) to see the girlfriend.

I would just as easily drive my car to work as I would take it into town onto sat night, or run to the 24hr servo at 3 in the morning and get a hotdog. I want a nice car that actually gets driven.

I have specifically chosen to lightly modify mine so it still has an element of drivability to it. Others I know that have gone all out on their car, drive herds of rubbish to work each day, then drive their hi-po car on the weekend. I get to drive mine all the time. Makes complete sense to me.

not much really - work and back its 18k's a day. When I have to fill up those stupid drinks machine at lilydale (about 35ks from work - i take my torque monster [honda civic] to transport the drinks).

But I hope to use the skyline for longer drives atleast once a month. Right now, I dont get much chance to drive the car as often as I'd like to...but hopefully that will change soon.

Its amazing though - in the first year i owned it, I drove around 15,000 klms. A friend of mine has an accord euro - got it the same time as i got the 'line - and right now he has only done 8,000 klms and I have gotten up to almost 18,000 klms.
