Thought i'd share my experience here after doing the brakes on my car.

Ended up with DBA 4000 Series T3 Club Spec Slotted Front and Rear rotors. And put on Project Mu B-Spec Pads.

I rebuilt both front and rear calipers and of course painted them up in a nice silver/alloy. Came up brand new.

Impressions are fantastic. Braking is extremely strong and I haven't even tested it fully yet as it's still bedding in (gentlish on the first 500km). But a few moderate stops i've done from 60-0, it almost feels like the car just stops on itself. Great friction and pedal feel. And best thing of all, absolutely no noise whatsoever. Not one peep. I'd highly recommend this setup for a street car.

so i have a daily which had 16s from factory and now runs 19s

braking is a bit of a concern and not sure if it is because of the bigger wheels or just generally poor disc and pad combo but it doesnt pull up as well as i would prefer

this car does will not attend any track days so i need a purely street pad with fairly low dust but more importantly excellent initial bite

cold squeal doesnt bother me so much as it wont need hard braking when cold anyways

i will be using dba t2 or rda slotted/dimpled rotors or something similar

i have read through pad recommendations on various sources with people using qrm hpx, ferodo tq, intima, lucas trw, etc etc

i have used intima ss and was not so impressed with them

lucas trw from memory was ok

i have used ferodo tq on a magna and they were ok also and these will be high on the list but just looking for something with more bite without activating abs as such

any help would be much appreciated!

=)

Quick pic to show the finished setup.

That looks fantastic mate. I've just ordered a set of Type NS pads for my car, which is running exactly the same setup as yours. NS's will be replacing QFM's.

Here's my setup in Red. (Hard to believe the rotors are just 2 months old)

QFM HPX.

Make sure you flush out all the old brake fluid and put some fresh DOT4 in (Penrite Super DOT4 is good).

Thanks mate, I think it looks real clean. Was tossing up between red or something else, thought the red may detract from the clean silver scheme of my car. Your's looks tops with the dark car colour though!

Were the Type NS one up or down from the B-Specs? So far so good with this setup. No noise and the braking is amazing compared to what it was before, and i thought that was good haha!

For the guys who are getting squeal with the QFM A1RM's, I solved it by using copper grease on the shims and edges of the pads. They also need to be re-bedded in every few thousand km's. Worth the excellent stopping power IMO.

Thanks mate! From what I read on the website, NS is a step down from the B-spec pads. Yeah am impressed by how your setup is very quiet. My car is strict a daily ..... for now ;)

Absolutely fine. Cold performance is great, they aren't track orientated pads. I just took them on the track :P

I find them nice and progressive, but when asked to perform they step up just fine. If you hammer them, then they will start to fade, but really you'd find it hard to do it on the road. This is on a 1700kg stagea. So something lighter is going to be easier on them as well. For the price, they do really well.

A few people come back with squeal complaints, but I've never had a peep out of mine. Just make sure shims are installed correctly, and everything is nice and clean. Then bed them according to the instructions in the pack.

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
