Crans
Im looking for a reasonably cheap turbo upgrade for my car. I dont wanna spend stupid amounts of money at the moment as I plan on building up an engine next year and will purchase a dicent turbo then. Just want something to give my rb20 alittle more go for the next year. Has any one used these ebay special turbos and top mount manifolds? What would you reccomend i get? Have you got one that died pritty easily? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/ Share on other sites

benl1981
WIthout a tune and supporting mods you wont make your car go faster with a bigger turbo. Maybe an Rb25 turbo would be ok for you..that's about it. Most of the ebay turbos are a lot bigger and will throw the stock computer out of wack Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/#findComment-3141305 Share on other sites
Crans
Well im not stupid so a retune is of course needed. My other car is known for its need for a tune. XR6 Turbo you pritty much can't change a thing with out it needing a tune Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/#findComment-3141316 Share on other sites

Mid_Nite_R33
so has anyone run an ebay turbo that lasted with supporting mods and tune ?? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/#findComment-3141332 Share on other sites
benl1981
Wouldn't you wait a year. Seems like a lot of hassle and money to repeat it all later. Your looking at the turbo cost ~500-1000 and tune ~500 + other mods (I guess you can keep those). Just drive the xr6 turbo when you get the urge for more power Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/#findComment-3141346 Share on other sites
FineLine
And what would happen if the turbo shat itself and spat bits in to the engine. It would be intyeresting to see if their warranty covered primary damage only. slow ride
Why don't you get a high flowed RB25 turbo from slide? Around $1000 delivered, and as many guys on here can confirm, alot better quality than that cheap shit on ebay. Should get you around 220RWKW with support mods and a good tune. MANWHORE
I'd take something made in china over something made in boganville anyday. Those knowledgeable people out there will agree with me that China has some very high quality stuff and it can be at a very good price. The thing is with China is that labour is very low, which works in your favour. Of course, there are vastly different levels of quality control ranging from very precise, to fairly ordinary. If you know how to buy, you can get good stuff for a very reasonable price. Even the cheap stuff isn't too bad considering you didn't pay much for it anyways. Compared to australia.... extremely overpriced and shit quality. I know someone who installs those ebay turbos, and hasn't had problems with them. It's your choice at the end of the day though. I think a lot of people whinge about the ebay turbos when they don't really ahve experience wiht them at all (not all people, some). It's a bit silly isn't it wanting to upgrade turbo and not wanting to spend more than $800. Wanting and getting are two different stories aren't they. I want 5 hot chicks, but I don't have 5 atm. What about ecu, injectors, maf, exhaust, clutch, wheels, tyres, diff, suspensions, tune etc that you need to make use of the turbo? If you can spare more money now, then do it, if not, 'put up' with what you have until you do. It's not like the stock turbo'd engine is weak by anymeans. It's not crazily fast, but it's certainly faster than most cars out there. Cheers all made in china...everything made in china is shiieeeeet. but then again everything we have here in aust is mostly from there.... somebody give da turbo a try.... Yeah, I agree that China has the capacity, and even now, do produce some 'good' stuff... However, there are some people around, myself included... That choose to not fund and/or support Communism... Crans
Well actaully i dont want to spend anymore than $800 on the turbo. I am well aware that other things need to be done aswell. My injectors will have another 50rwkw of life in them. I will be also getting an ecu upgrade none of this comes under the $800 budget Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/170000-ebay-specials/#findComment-3142636 Share on other sites
r33_nikolas
hi, i purchased one of these kits off ebay last year... what they dont tell you is you need braided oil lines.. and to get custom dump pipes and cooler pipes for your car... i eventually installed it, cost me soo much money in the end that i didnt plan for. but i gotta tell you... they pull on these t3/t4 turbos in top end is unbelievable. i was running 14 pound boost and the car was getting a little bit wobbly even in 4th gear.... while it lasted it was great but it shat itself a week or so later.... if you do end up going ahead with buying the ebay kit, i've got all the parts at home if your interested, but not the turbo, bcoz it shti itself.. Well actaully i dont want to spend anymore than $800 on the turbo.I am well aware that other things need to be done aswell. My injectors will have another 50rwkw of life in them.
