I've been reading as much as i can on the forums about suspension, SK's kit and Tein HA's.

I've noticed a lot of complaints about the Tein HA's - in particular the harshness of ride. I don't really understand how harsh the ride is as i'm running stock suspension now, but would it be like go-kart stiff? or would it be able to be compared to anything else?

Also, would it be any good for putting down 200rwkw? I've read a couple of stories with ppl having trouble putting power down with these coilovers although some seem to love them.

I've read about SK's setup too, and it seems like a pretty good setup (user reviews) although i may be able to get the HA's for half the price.

My question would be, should i spend the extra money and get SK's R32 gts-t setup? or go for the HA's?

hey mate i've got Tein HR's and HA's.....in both my skylines well the HA has a 16 stage soft to stiff levels soo liek if u think its hell stiff turn the knob and make it soft but my tein HR their only height adjustables so they are real stiff so every little pebbles feel liek a pot hole but the HA's are ok well i danno about putting power down but i know that my Teins are awsome in the Handling wise i mean taking corners there is like prolly 0 body roll but on aussie roads it can be a bit like harsh the ride but normal roads that don't have pot holes etc will be good :stupid: hehe it is a little bumpy but waht coil overs arnt?

I had HA's, and yes they were Go-Kart harsh!

One had the little knob thing broken off, so i couldnt adjust the damping ratio.

They were also super low, ive got a feeling they were for a GTR (is that right?!?), because when i tried to wind down the spring to raise the car, the car didnt go any higher. It was super low = no travel = very very bumpy. I had the steering wheel to hold onto, but my passengers didnt enjoy it. Hills drives were dangerous, car would bounce around corners....

But maybe my HA's were setup wrong.

The harshness is mainly because of the high spring rates found in the HA. If you don't want a harsh ride, I recommend the Tein Superstreets if you are after coilovers. They are more street friendly as spring rates are closer to factory. I've proven to a lot of ppl with the mentality "all coilovers are harsh" that the Tein SS are surprisingly comfortable!

coilovers traditionally have very stiff rides - great for responsiveness but not so good for australian roads. have seen a WRX with coilovers hit corrugations on a tarred road (the surface was just uneven.. kinda shit) and since it was around a corner the car just skipped straight over them like a rock on a pond and ploughed into a ditch.

ive got em too and in my opinion if you can get em new for half price then get em. mine were used and knocks a bit b/c the pillow balls are worn. also my front 2 damper knobs are missing so i cant adjust them but they seem fine. yep they are damn stiff, i got sore neck the first week after 10mins driving. once you get used to them theyre great but big bumps and holes are unforgiving. makes you read the road conditions alot more. i love em but i havent been in a car with SK's setup to compare which is something thats holding me back from getting them.

I wonder if this is a common problem, with the adjustment knobs breaking off - one of mine was broken too. Might be something to be careful with - if you own HA's, be careful not to turn the knob with too much force.

I've got HA's on my 33 GTR and yes they are too hard because of the spring rates, but cornering and precision in handling are awesome. Once the tyres are up to temp I can easily get more G's in cornering than I can in acceleration, and thats a huge buzz. I love it!

Still, i'm changing to bilstein shocks and softer springs soon as the car is my daily driver as well and the roads in cairns are way too bumpy.

I've got easily 110mm of ride height and there is room to adjust higher if I want too.

I've got the HAs and don't find them too hard for normal street use. Mine have the progressive spring feature tho (i.e. small spring for riding everyday bumps, big fu(k off spring for cornering etc).

I have the rears set 4 clicks from squishy, and the fronts 4 clicks from house stumps. They make cornering a dream :P

The helper springs cant do anything for softening a ride, they bind (crush and become solid) with the weight of the car on them so the spring rate is only given by the main spring. They are only there to keep the main spring trapped at full droop.

The Tein HAs and HRs are pretty old now aren't they? I'd be wary of buying 2nd hand ones. Either way, I would just get the Whiteline/Bilstein groupbuy, for the amount of handling AND comfort you get, it's pretty hard to beat.

I put a set of HA's in my mates mitsubishi vr4 and he loves them, reckons they were the best 700 bucks he ever spent.

But as stated sometime coi over can be a little harsh on the road, i had g4's in my r31 and loved them but reall stiff springs so occasionally i'd second guess driving it. Now i got JIC's in me cefiro and there not to bad just get to know your route to work and home a little better
