what kinda management can this kinda economy be achieved with? i own an auto and i know that the simple fact of 1 less gear means worse economy. it also means i cant use a standalone ecu (eg pfc). im guessing somtthing like a safc is not gonna cut it right?

Mine is auto

lol! best thing is probably just to control your foot!! save the high boosting for the one off, or drag/track

thats true...but I only drive mine once a week/fortnight at the moment, so I try to get as much fun out of it while I can :worship:

Really, I dont mind the not so good fuel economy. It's the price I pay to keep the stock engine running sweet. With a complete rebuild I would then be able to run it leaner, increase boost etc. I am happy with my tune...uses fuel (runs perfectly clean...no smoke) but knock is kept down to the teens which is what I am most concerned about.

I dont know where you get that idea from. Why would you tune the car to be rich on cruise as well as boost? you only need to run it rich on boost and thats it.

Running it rich on cruise to "save" the engine is just bullshit IMO.

If anything you would have safer power if you fixed it up as your plugs are probly getting close to being fouled with fuel which will only cause issues on boost lol and could cause detonation because the fuel is not burning properly on boost???

A save running engine is a clean tune.. run it rich on boost im all for that.. but not on cruise thats just silly.

hahaha.. so you'd come under the 'once in awhile' umbrella

unfortunately yeah...even had to get a jump starter kit for it  I would like to drive it around more but it can't make it into work carpark, or client car park  so it's a weekend cruiser only.

what has running rich on cruise got to do with anything. I never said mine ran rich on cruise. It runs rich on boost (which might be richer than yours on boost) which was a deliberate exercise from the tuner because at 300+ rwkw it is in the upper limits of the stock bottom end. Because I dont drive it much, and unless it's on a cruise it's only in the city so it stop at lights...on boost...stop at lights...on boost. That is where I am more concerned about an almost non existant knock count which is what I have.

I usually get around 450ks on the highway. Maybe 375ish around town. All comes down to how i drive it. If on boost you can watch the guage go down. It a rich at the moment but am using 1000cc injectors and will be getting retuned soon

Just wondering, hopefully in the not to distant future i wanna mayb get a slide high flow and some injectors and it should push the car to 250 to 275kw.

Anyway my question is who has got that amount of kws already in a r33 series 2 skyline? because at the moment i can fill my r33 to the brim and i can get about 350 to 400kms to the tank in normal city driving. At the moment my car puts out around 200kws, so yer if i get 250kws + what can i expect a tank of petrol to last for?

Cheers

Adam

ive got 251kw, and i get between 300-400km out of a tank, even with heavy driving 85% of the time i get to about 350km with about 10-15L left in the tank when i fill up.

mine is a r33 s1

cheers michael

230 - 250 rwkw depending on how friendly the dyno is !

hard driving 18 ltrs per 100kms

average, stop start, short trip driving 13-14 ltrs per 100 kms

could possibly acheive 10 ltrs per 100 km but that would defeat the purpose of owning a turbo sports car!!!

hahaha.. i have a feeling i'll have to do that tomorrow!! 2 days without driving is almost enough to kill her battery! :P yeah.. sux about carparks :( lucky for me the one i park at is decent! weekend cruiser is good though.. least you appreciate it more!!! :)

When you said you get very bad economy then i assumed you run it rich on cruise because otherwise you wouldnt get such bad economy.

My car is actually running very rich on boost. Its running .79 - .80 's on boost and about 1.0 - 1.2 on cruise.. in afr terms thats 10.8 on boost and 15.5ish on cruise.

rb25's should get good economy if tuned correctly. at a min 350km's to a tank.

hey mate you seem to kno what your talking about lol would you use a slide high flow turbo?

Sorry to hijack! Anthony will answer shortly I am sure!

I use a slide highflow... it was a temporary answer for more boost until my Garrett was installed....

Slide highflow ----> highly recommended. I achieved 262rwkw @ 16psi out of it (278rwkw @18psi ringing the neck of it to see what the max power I could achieve with it)

Regarding fuel economy... I also use a different ecu to a power fc but mine is tuned as Anthony mentioned - where I cruise at on the F3 everyday and around the central coast is set on close/open loop (never remember which is which!) sooo unless I am boosting up all the time, I will still achieve my 450-500km per tank.

excellent so for $1000 dollars both you guys would recommend it? excellent i think ill go that way for sure then... and hopefully get it tuned so ill easily see 400km a tank!! thanks mate... just how long did you have it on your car for? No problems?

    • I'm interested if anyone agrees with what you've said, and can give a good reason. Temperature of powder coating should be below any temperature you'd use to alter the wheel structure.  Powder coat typically 200 to 250. Annealing if that's what people are claiming would be occuring, starts at 300, and depending on the alloy, can need even up at 400+.   That's the only part I can think of that could cause an issue that people are believing it's from the rim losing hardness and becoming too soft.
    • Negative probe should be on the cars chassis. Positive on the wire.   Start as said above by unplugging everything (unplug the lights, and switches. Now at the switch, there is a wire from the fuse, to the switch, so out your positive on that terminal. It should read open circuit. If it reads something, especially a stupid low value, the short is somewhere between the fuse and the switch. If that's fine, now put the positive probe on the wire that goes to the headlight (at the switch plug). If it reads stupid low, the fault is from the switch, to the headlight.   Another quick test, is take the whole LED light setup from the left, and plug it into the right side, does it still blow the fuse? If you put the right hand side led light setup on the left hand side wiring, does the left hand side wiring now blow?  If the blowing fuse swaps from right to left doing this, your LED lights are the issue.
    • Anyone know if it's a problem to powder coat forged alloy wheel centers (Rays/Volk GT-C). some say it's bad and can damage the alloy, some say it's not a problem.
    • Hey guys, I'm reviving an old post but I'm finally getting around to working on this now. I removed the battery to get a better look at the wires and i traced the wires from the headlight to the fuse box in the engine bay, but the wiring looks fine? The wiring for the R/H headlight is 3 wires and then is bundled up with the large diameter wire that goes underneath the fuse box. I didn't take it apart yet. I know you said that its a short circuit somewhere between the fuse box and the headlight. But could it be the headlight switch on the dash? Also, i pulled out my multi-meter and set it on the Ohms, but i'm not sure where to put the negative probe and the positive probe.
    • I have a 2 lt in Sydney. It was fitted on a R33 GTR, not used for several years . If you are interested email me on: [email protected] I'm not on this forum much .
