Mate what mods you got?

With a pod and exhaust I pump out a full tank in round about 360kms so your not to far off the pace... I drive spiritedly tho..

You might also want to look at what fuel your using.. I noticed the r34 doesnt like BP or Vortex (caltex) BP makes it splutter and backfire and vortex flies out the tank .. Shell is a in between I use that .. Hope your using 98% octane??

And I think sedans have a different tunes to coupes as well as auto to manual tune

Whaaaat? In 3 x R34's I've owned they all run fine on BP Ultimate (current car was tuned on it), no problems with Vortex Gold (used occasionally) and Optimax seems to be just fine, although a little thirstier on my old coupe (I didn't live near a BP for a while).

Also, it's not 98% octane, it's 98RON - RON is the Research Octane Number to represent the known knocking characteristics of a fuel. For example, Methanol is ~107RON

Should point out that I got 480km's the other day on Vortex 98 (My fuel of choice, as it's the only really convienent one around me).

If I pushed my luck I think I could have got it well above 500km (Ended up putting just over 50L when I filled up).

And on my trip to sydney and back recently I've gotten upwards of 600kms to a tank.

It's all about tune (although mine's stock) and driving style.

340km to a tank just sounds a bit heavy footed.

oh sorry guys... not enough info~

i have nothing but BOV, Air filter, lowered,,,, other than all std..

and granma... like not over 3000rpm.. during that half tank i did full boost till 100km only twice.

and im using shell v-power or mobile 8000.

and i live in East lindfield area which is norther surburb in sydney and going to uni 3 days a week to UTS during lunch time,

and come back about before 5 o'clock.. so not too heavy traffic...

so... i think my R34 is something wrong with fuel eco... 380 is really running rich with non-tuned...

once i fully boosted twice in a row, and i actually see the fuel going down...

any suggestion? whats SAFC and dyno tune? and please cost.....

cheers guys

and thx for your help...

A SAFC is a piggy back computer that you can get for about $250 (check Ebay). It can really help out with fuel control on imports like Skylines as it can be tuned to run the car leaner and therefore more economical. The tune can cost around $300 or so at a place like Hitman near Penrith. Well worth the investment .... after you get your O2 sensor checked out!

How are you plugs too? A lot of general maintenance things like this can help.

Id say your bov is your problem .. BOV vent into atmosphere? if so uve found ur problem ..

And ultimate doesnt burn in the engine and cracks and shits in my exhaust i.e backfiring on cold start.. no other fuel does this ..

Yeah i meant ron I knew i wrote it wrong but got a customer so had to close the screen...

Yes Safc and tune will save u heaps .. If I didnt want a kit and rims so much id buy one..

And I drive the car in heavy heavy peak hour traffic and that 340kms gave me some good 2 hours of twisties too .. so spose it aint to bad for so much on off hard driving.. But yes my car runs rich .. however doesnt blow smoke so thats good.. 3G seems to be my most common gear change.. maybe 3.5-4 if I want to make some noise..

And I regularly drag out first cause I love the sound.. especially through a tunnel or when someone pisses me off driving a celica or something with an exhaust..

how do i check that my BOV vent into atmosphere?

and does normal skyline doesnt have BOV as standard? i thought that is std... cause the dealer didnt tell me about it... anyway... should i pop that off if i want better fuel eco?

Thanks man!

really helped!!!cheers

when ur driving does it go vrooooooom PSHHHHHHHHHHh loud (not air filter loud i mean like PSHHHHHH f**ken PSSSSHHHH BLUDDY PSHHHH loud)

If so its vent into atmo .. means its blowing exhaust fumes out and they offsets your air fuel mixtures and dumps more fuel to compensate..

yes it does...

ok...

so if i take that off would i get many diff on fuel eco?

thanks for your help bro! you really helps me!! cheers

Yeap you deffinately will .. If you take it to your mechanic or even take a photo and post it on here and ask if you can make it plumb back (which means to sends that exhaust fumes back into the exhaust via the turbo in gear changes) then u will see fuel improvements..

Long story short the r34 drinks fuel without a tune .. buying a S-AFC and a boost contoller (this makes u go faster hehe) will decrease fuel .. well maybe not the boost controller but the s-afc will .. prob cost $400 new and $200 with install and tune .. so good for the cash u save

It also helps the life of the turbo. oh and gives u more POWA!

thanks man thanks!!!

ill take it to my mechanics after exam.... fu*k im in exam period......anyway

really really thanks!!! i better research s-afc or something... f**k man... too much to spend on this monster....

but no regret of buying skyline man~lol

whats POWA?.....

An atmo bov will hardly make any difference at all... ive done the maths and on my R33 Series 2 it makes around .5L per 100ks diffference

Skylines drink fuel.. no 2 ways around it...

your best bet will be to do the cheaper stuff first..

O2 Sensor.. etc..

If your driving is mainly short trips you will use more fuel too.. as while the engine is cold it uses more fuel..

SAFC will make a difference.. plus make the car more fun to drive.. (more power less fuel)

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
    • Modern oils are amazing. Add tyres to that as well.
