Monitor To Rca?

not sure if this is the right spot for this question (move it if it doesn't belong here).

I'm trying to find a cable that will connect the monitor out plug to an RCA plug, so the computer can be displayed on the tv. Having no idea what such a thing is called, searching google has been rather unproductive. I just want to be able to watch movies and stuff from the hard drive without burning it to a dvd.

Does something like this exist? If so, any idea where one could be aquired?

most videocards nowadays have S-Video output or similar. So check your card first.

I'd say you can get a VGA to RCA adaptor but i'd be unsure of a cost. Try ringing dick smith or someone. They should be able to help you.

So if it has S-video output, that means it has the RCA plugs already on the computer? Therefore if I can't see them I don't have S-video output? or is it something different?

ummmm... what kind of TV do you have? You wont be able to run it through RCAs unless your video card, as mentioned, has S-Video, and no it doesnt look like RCA plugs.

If your Video Card in your PC doesnt have SVideo it will have one of two plugs... DVI (WHITE) or standard VGA (BLUE) output plugs... altho usually if it has DVI it will have SVideo (its a round black plug)

S-Video

DVI (will look like one of these)

VGA

If it only has SVid and VGA you only have 2 options... 1 requires your TV to have a VGA port 2 is you get an SVideo to RCA cable

Generally these come with the vid cards if they have an SVideo output but if it doesnt any Dick Smiths and a like should have em.

So that solves connecting it... your video card should have an option to switch between or use an alternative to the standard VGA which most monitors plug into. You'll need to switch it over using these options... usually if you right click in your desktop and go to properties and then settings and Advanced it will bring up your cards settings.

If its an ATi card its generally under the Displays tab... im not near my home PC which has a Nvidia card but its generally the same or similar.

Here you can switch between TV or Monitor etc

as mentioned all above, majority of video cards have Svideo out. My vidoe card is 5yrs old and has it so its a common thing.

Video card should also come with a Svideo (male) to a single RCA (male)

So you plug one end into the video card and the other goes into the AV1 input on the tv. Like how you plug a dvd player to the tv.

Video card will only show a picture and will have to have a soundcard with output in order to get audio on tv. (if you want)

How i have it done is i have a cable that connects to the normal VGA out of the Computer. Its the same on the other side and connects to the RGP-PC slot of my tv, sound also gets connected with a normal cable and thats it.

if ur pc has svideo with red,green,blue, black plugs on the other side i've read that i need a rf modulator or something to convert the signal..

i have a question too.

I have a new pc at work, i'm running dual 20inch LCDs. now, my pc came with what looks like a DVI-D dual, but it doesn't have the wide horizontal pin. the plug is the normal DVI shape, but it is all little pins all the way like an old serial printer cable. my monitors both have DVI-D single link inputs. so at the moment I have this splitter cable plugged into my PC's card. then the stupid splitter has 2 VGA plugs on the output end, so I am using a VGA to DVI-D conversion cable. what this tells me is I'm converting DVI-D to VGA, then VGA back to DVI-D which surely is not ideal.

Ni, do you know of what I'm talking about, and if someone make a splitter cable that is DVI-DVI?

lol, it's a sweet rig. pentium D, 4gb ram, ok HD but the two 20s are the crowning glory. they both have 2 DVI inputs, all the good gear 5m/s response.

as for what do I need with dual 20s? well why not? means I only need to alt+tab half as much as I used to! and it looks damn impressive.

Dual screens arent just wank factor theyre pretty handy... we use dual 19s at work... at home i only have a single 22inch WS which is good enough for me. Until i build my next machine i wont bother with another.

As for your question... we use a DVI-DVI, DVI splitter cable here at work (ie. Single DVI output splits into twin DVI)... i have no idea where they got them from but i would say they wouldnt be too hard to track down. Check with stores like MSY or Scorptek etc.
