Which format is the Japanese version 360 console? Mine has Japanese written all over the box and all Jap menus so I assume its the Jap version. (since it was a gift I have no idea where it was originally purchased)

If its NTSC, does that mean it can not play any PAL games sold in Australia?

If thats the case, where can I get it chipped so it could play all formats (ntsc, pal and/or DVD R)?

Cheers

A lot of xbox360 games are not region encoded. So some game will work and some will not. Only DVD movies from the japanese region will work on the console.

Also in the settings there is a menu where you can change it to english.

your correct skylvia.

Collectors editions are always nice if you like extras. Just be wary cos you have a hong kong console lots of games are gonna be in full japanese which could make it difficult for you.

No japan and USA are NTSC, and australia and europe are PAL. France i believe still use SECAM.

But with all this high def shit it doesn't make much difference anyways, it's not really pal or ntsc anymore, cos originialy i think pal had 576 verticle lines compared to 480 on ntsc, but ntsc had a higher refresh rate, but with 720P. 1080i, 1080P etc etc those old standards of broadcasting are out the window.

with XBOX 360 games, I've noticed that Japan and some other Asian countries have NTSC-J while North America has NTSC-C/U. Whats the difference there other than language? Are these different region coding games interchangeable/playable on both console versions?

it's not really pal or ntsc anymore

I guess the restrictions are there just for marketing purpose then?
