Yes I have been searching the forums but still after more opinions etc. My supporting mods will be powerfc, 700cc injectors, exhaust, pods, cam gears, walbro fuel pump.

Iam after about 290+ rwkw but the main thing is I want response NO LAG!!! ....The main question is how much more lag will I get with the -5 over the -7 , if its stuff all obviously its in my best interests to go the bigger turbo and add another 30-40rwkw.

2860r-7 = "N1" rated at 320hp

2860r-5 = "very close to 2530" rated at 360hp

Please list your opinions and if you are running these turbs your mods and when they come on boost etc.

Thanks,Ryan

To get the best out of the -5's you need Poncams...

This with comp. and tune for street will give you great responce.

You have not done a search....this topic has been discussed 1 billion times..LOL

Don't know what state you are in but if your in Melbourne..I could show you what the package can do...

You dont "need" poncams for the -5's at all. The top 5 Circuit cars here in Vic (that use -5) dont have poncams, and are leagues ahead of everyone else.

For 290-320rwkw, the -7 is what you want. The -5 (2530 style) are too big for that goal.

Simple as that really.

I don't see even why you posted this question?

It isn't complicated at all. -7's for mor response (less lag) and -5's for more power (but more lag).

But you seem to already know this.....

Either way your 290rwkw's will be achieved no problems. But you will feel the difference in lag between the 2 set-ups. But you will also feel the difference in power.

I think it was WilliamsF1 here that turned his RB26 road engine into a torque mountain with the -7 type turbos which from memory are similar/same as RB26 specific GT-SS turbos . He did a lot of other things as well and I think the result made his RB26 feel more like people today expect a production engine to feel - sort of 2500-3000 and hang on .

I've never driven or even been in a GTR but everyone says that they're just a car until 4000 odd and then things really happen .

If I ever inherited a GTR its what I reckon I'd use . Makes the V8's look even sicker I suppose when the legend starts to haul nearly 1000 revs sooner than they usually do .

Cheers .

    • Hi guys, planning to get 18x9 +25 in fronts and 18x10 +25 in rears been reading the whole thread and cant really find anything   Anyone know if these will fit a r34 gtt with no scrubbing or guard work needed?

    • Was planning on getting an R35 MAF and the adapter, should this be okay? Also any idea where I could get my hands on an intake pipe?
    • I mean yes, if you're starting from scratch on an unknown engine yes you don't need to be doing all kinds of math in the background but if you're doing relatively minor changes like AFM + injectors + boost up with some aftermarket turbos it takes quite a bit of math if you want to do something like maintain OEM fuel + timing tables but compressed and then a bit more load scale up top. I think I've spent too much time working on big engineering nightmares though so I'm a big fan of trying to constrain the scope of whatever work I'm doing as much as possible and trying to get it right before moving on. For example, a local owner just did the usual E85 + single turbo conversion to his R32 GTR and nearly burned his car to the ground doing some spirited driving up the local mountains. Turbine is unshielded and too close to the hood insulation. It's tough to balance "just get the project done" and "seemingly small details can cause massive setbacks I'm not willing to deal with".
