Mine has this, and it turns the headlights off after the interior light turns off, which is 30 sec after the turbo timer shuts everything down. This may be a feautre of my alarm though, because the interior light goes off, the headlights turn off and the alarm auto arms all at the same time. If I self arm the alarm before the turbo timer shuts off, it stll turns the lights off at about 30 sec, but only if they are on auto. If they are on manual they just stay on.

Oh, and I say do it! The best thing about JDM cars is all the stuff they have that domestic cars dont. F'r instance did you know that apparently the new holden astra hatch has a brand new innovation for 2007? Thats right - a self closing hatch! 10 years later......

Fair enough on the girlfriend thing then. My girlfriend just got her licence (bloody time) and i get in the car with her at night and she starts driving off with no lights... I ask her "can you see alright" and she says "yeh, not bad"....then i turn the lights on for her and she is like, "oh"

But as Cyrus asked, doesnt she get beeped at galore. If I leave my lights on the bloody thing wont stop beeping until I close the door, by which time I understand why its beeping. Either way though, I think the autolight feature itself is pretty useless (Had autolight in 2xcelsiors I owned) as Luke said they turn on a bit late and tunnels are annoying. Cool, but useless.

Good luck sorting the issue of flattening the battery either way.

Just bought a 1996 RS Four V it has the Auto lights... with the light sensor on the dashboard (drivers side) and since the car has a turbo timer, the auto-off when you leave the car does not work... which sucks cause otherwise I would use the auto lights...

They do turn on and off a bit if you're going through the trees etc, and start on park/driving lights when it's not really dark...

would be good if the turbo timer (which I might disable anyway) didn't screw with that circuit...

The car manual (aftermarket translated one) I have says they are meant to turn off when you leave the car...

just my 2 cents

Leather Seats (not heated), Stock, except: Bilstein shocks, Tein Springs, GTR intercooler, Cat replaced with straight pipe, Boost gauge, Larger trans cooler, Pod filter, aftermarket rear muffler, Dynatron alarm/immobiliser and turbo timer.

wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a new girlfriend that knows how to operate headlights?

i will tell her that but i would prolly get slapped to death HAHAHAHA (no really)

so no it would not really be cheaper to get a new one! unfortunate cos due to update to a new model something shortly hehehehe

just to clarify for the sarcastic ones.

it is not i that requires the auto light jigger for the car it is so my girlfriend does not continue to leave the bloody lights on and flatten my battery again, as she is a crumpldore driver and her car has the light jigger on it.

i am quite capable of turning the lights off/on my self but she seems reticent to obtain this skill.

if it all works proper when you pull the keys out it will beep at you no matter wether you have a TT our not

an alarm will come on even if the lights are on the keys are either in the ignition or not !

all good advice guys and while i am fully aware of the incessant beeping etc coming from the car, when "she who must be obeyed" gets out of the car she must suddenly develop domestic deafness of some sort and ignores it, so short of putting a siren as loud as a cop car in the loop for the lights. i just bloody want the auto light bejigger as this would be much more "user "friendly.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 3 months later...

just thought i would put an update in this thread as i forgot all about it ooops!

i managed to get hold of a stalk with the auto light function on it but the plug is different in shape as well as having different pins in it so alas it does not fit :domokun: .

however now at least if someone else is thinking of doing the same they will know now, if they find this thread that is.

i didn know you could buy auto light bejiggers as an aftermarket item from supercheap or the like so i will endeavour to check it out before i go back to work on friday

cheers oxford

Yeah, I have the auto light feature and think it is over rated, it really doesn't turn the lights on until it is too dark (for me anyway) so I always override it.

I have also found that the auto lights turn on too late.

I found that by adding a layer or two of dark window tint film over the auto lights sensor, the lights will come on earlier, and lessen the flicking on/off effect going under bridges.
