Earlier this year John from UAS came down to Phillip Island for the Nissan Nationals and has since been looking for another date to come back.

Yesterday at June PIARC sprint it was announced they will be holding another 2 day event on the weekend of October 20/21 and John is keen to come down again for it.

It would be great if anyone else was keen to come down to join us and have a drive around what is with-out doubt the best full time circuit in Oz.

The way these weekends work is the Saturday is non-timed practise sessions of around 15min I think - but you can usually expect to get around 50 laps on a Saturday ss there isn't usually too big a crowd.

Sundays will be timed sprints which involves a warm up lap followed by 3 timed flying laps. You will get 5 timed sessions for the day and then given time you will get other non-timed sessions at the end of the day.

Usually the entry costs are $130 per day.

But it would be great to get a few SAU people from all over along for it.

Entry Form And Sup Req's

Which car Cam? The real one or the talentless one?

Actually if you come and bring the EVO I'll speak to Uncle Jeff and see if he'll come down too. Not sure if you have met him yet but I'm sure you will at Dutton Vic this year. He's not bad for an old man.

Mate if I can get a hold of my mate's 3 car transporter I'll bring both, otherwise I will tow the Evo down  Have been told on numerous occasions to get my arse down to a track day at Phillip Isalnd, & this fits in nicely....

Re Jeff, sounds good!

Cheers Cam

Yep it's about as far south on mainland Australia that you can get. Literally as you drive down the main straight (at around 260-270km/hr  ) you are looking over Bass Straight towards Tassie.

Here's a Vid of the Vic Stig doing a lap of the track. Right Click - Save As (34MB)

It doesn't do it justice and Jack makes it look easy but take into account the top of 4th gear is around 240km/hr and see how many corners are taken high in 4th. :D

The video starts coming onto the main straight and you can see Bass Straight in front of you :D

you reckon? I reckon I'm getting about 200 at 7000rpm. is there really another 40km/h in 1000rpm? cause if I can get 240 in 4th I don't think I'll ever need 5th with my lowly kw... :D

According to some info I have the in gear km/h per 1000 rpm are:

(drum roll)

1st 8.9

2nd 14.8

3rd 21.9

4th 28.5

5th 40

So, at 7200 rpm in 4th you should be doing 205kmh. Which is your change point into 5th unless you want to rev it some more.

holy shit. I'm actually right for once!

I knew i could get approx 200 in 4th, and yeah i'm changing around the 7000 mark or so.

so mr djr81, can you tell me what speeds I will have when I swtich from the current 4.1 diff gears to the 4.375 i'm going to put in?

basically at 7000, I've always thought. 60 in first, 100 in second, 160 in third, 200 in 4th and 260 in 5th. seems i was a bit off in 5th, but the rest are pretty close.

holy shit. I just realised if you rev 5th to 8000 you get 320km/h... nice.

Um, multiply the number (ie km/h per 1000rpm) by the old diff ratio & divide it by the new.

So 28.5 * 4.111/4.375 = 26.78.

It is only 6% shorter - you sure it is worth it?

yep - 240 is around 8,400 rpm which is just below my shift point. :)

Come to Phillip Island (or even Sandown) and you'll need 5th for sure. We do things fast down here. It's the crazy speeds that make Phillip Island such a buzz. You just can't appreciate it until you have driven it. :)

Unfortunately anything over 200 & the bonnet starts vibrating & the clacker valve starts actuating & it is all a bit much for me, really. :)

If anyone wants to work out their optimum gear change points (you need a dyno chart) fire us off a PM with your email address & will send the excel spreadsheet with it all on. :)

yeah, good point! I'm the only pu55y in nsw it seems that shifts between 7000 and 7500, but it may also explain why i'm the only one not suffering from SBS and have driven the car on track for a couple of years now.

I will definately be trying to sort my shit out for PI in October. Need to get on a trailer as it's no fun driving a GTR 2000kms for a track day. and even less fun if I break it down there :)

Well done Snowman and you know I am in big time. I have been seriously corrupted as now I have experienced this track I am hooked. I came down for Dat Nats and drove all that way for 14 laps and WELL WORTH it had a ball. It is the best track in Australia if not the world. Very immaculate track, no marbles, clean and smooth with heaps of grip, big immaculate sand traps and grass is even cut nice and green, and very challenging and fast track. Looking at the ocean at 280ks an hour going down the straight is awesome. Beer Baron stop beer talking and say a big, YES I will be there!! Good time of the year also.

This track is so hard to get to and this is the big chance as noise limit on this special weekend is lifted, two days, sure to be well run with some great cars. Big Nissan roll up of GTS-T's, GTR's the odd cardigan wearer in zeds and maybe some quick SR's and EVO's Sti's Porsche’s?????
