Am I Too Tall?

Hey all,

I have been trying to heel-toe in my S14 200sx. I am 6 foot, 3 inches.

I'm finding it great difficulty to blip the throttle as I feel that my knee is getting in the way of the (stock) steering wheel.

I was just wondering whether I am too tall to do this properly and if there are any suggestions/tricks to doing it well.

put the steering wheel as high as it will go (best for control anyway)

and then use the right-hand edge of your foot rather than your 'heel'

yup, i had the same problem. I solved it by buying a smaller diameter steering wheel

My head touches the roof lining, thank god I have a sunroof.

Anyone figured out how to lower the stock seat in a 32 without butchering it?

I just roll my foot rather than move it.

I'm 6'1 and in an s13.. works for me.

I've also just thrown my aftermarket steering wheel on and it's smaller than the stock one and the boss kit brings it out a bit to give me a little more room.

haha, from my experience the sunroof restricts headroom. Have you sat in a non sunroof 32?

i've been told there's nothing that can be done about the stock seat. Need to get a aftermarket with super-low rails.

As Liz said, use the side of your foot so your not moving your knee.Takes a few days of practice to perfect but the end result is worth it.

I think sun/moon roofs take about 2 inches away from your head room.

As for the heel toe thing. You might try after market pedals as well. Wider pedals should make it easier to get your foot on them.

im only 6 feet tall and i find that when i wear a helmet in my r33 gts-t my head hits the roof lining too, so much so that i have to not only put the seat right back but i have tilt the back rest right back to the point wear it doesnt offer much support anymore. anyone else have this problem???

shoes makes a big defference too. i can do it easily in the missus pulsar with no shoes, but as soon as i try it with shoes i can't. partly because they are stiffer. try some racing boots (like what race drivers wear) they are muh softer in the sole, and make it much easier to do.

Easier solution mate, drop it into first then quickly put ur left foot on brake n use ur right 2 feather the accelerator to what you need.. should have enough go 2 snap 2 2nd gear or wateva if need be.

i tried wearing a pair of FA edition puma's that are supposed to be good... didnt feel any different. Just raise the steering wheel as much as it can go, and possibly buy a new, lower seat for the car

PS i feel your pain. One of the major reasons i sold my skyline was i dont fit in it at all anymore.

You don't need $150 shoes. You can get a pair of OMP Competitions for less than $100. Make sure they are a relatively tight fit (more so than normal shoes) & wear some thin socks. This is important so you can feel the pedals as much as anything. Try something like this:

You should find them much better than ordinary shoes.

Secondly if that isn't enough try the following:

Wedge your arse into the seat so as to be as far back as possible.

Pull the steering wheel fully out & up.

If that fails try a smaller wheel or one with a bigger offset.

i had a problem with legs hitting steering wheel, i solved it by getting a justjap detachable steering wheel boss.

it brings the wheel closer to you and ur knees have more clearance space.

Yes, I find it's more a "roll the side of your foot onto the pedal" than a "hit the pedal with your heel"

i could do it pretty well in the skyline (and i'm 6'3), but in the pulsar i had trouble with shoes on.

it also depends on what you want to heel/toe for. if it is for burnouts at the drags then you shouldn't have an issue (unless you wear skate shoes or boots). if it is for track work, then try to track down some cheap race shoes, or anything with a not too sticky sole. if it is just for on the street, then just lift of the brake, dab the gas, and apply the brake again if you must make yourself sound like a fool.

Same problem, raising the steering wheel and putting it closer to me fixed my problem. In fact i reckon it doesnt really matter what shoes you use, it jsut takes getting used to.
