doxximus
and my ford raider also. getting tired of having to look at them for the last 6 years, and plus i just want to cut down to a single car that will be useful for when i get married. i'm looking at the liberty b4 atm. 2001 - 2002 model. they have come down a lot in price since i last checked, and by the time i actually get one they'll be a down a bit more. question is, i've read there is a flat spot mid-revs or something, but has anyone actually had any experience with them? the whole body shape and look of the car just makes me happy in the pants Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171419-so-i-want-to-sell-my-skyline/ Share on other sites
Mr. Oizo
http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2218/article.html Unfortunately, as discussed at Subaru Liberty B4 Twin-Turbo, the standard Australian-spec B4 is plagued by a significant mid-range torque drop-off that occurs when the secondary turbocharger is being brought up to speed. It’s not unusual to see boost fall away by about 4 psi or more during this stage. For the driver, this means the rate of acceleration is far from linear - something completely at odds with what is otherwise a very refined vehicle. here are some more articles http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1229/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1242/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1712/article.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171419-so-i-want-to-sell-my-skyline/#findComment-3160738 Share on other sites
doxximus
so that seems like pretty much the only problem? anyone driven them before? i mean, im not going to be speeding everywhere anyway, dont even do it in the line. thats why that problem is 'meh' for me. but if it's something that's terribly noticeable then really. i really need to find a dealer and drive one around Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171419-so-i-want-to-sell-my-skyline/#findComment-3160745 Share on other sites
will-32
hey man, my dad owned one for 3 years and I was lucky enough to drive it for a while (just got my license before he got rid of it). Anyway theyre a wicked car to drive, we both loved it. There is a bit of a torque 'hole' but I didnt find it to be a problem at all or even annoying for that matter. I don't get what all those people are on about when they say its such a problem, they must be lazy drivers or something, as long as you keep the revs sufficiently high (and its not like you need to wind out every gear) its fine and you will have a lot of fun. Awesome interior and factory stereo too. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171419-so-i-want-to-sell-my-skyline/#findComment-3160861 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
What the people are on about... Ill try explain. In this day and age, you pay good money for a car. And a car that had a mid-range torque hole isn't friendly as such The general person might not care (those who just drive it to the supermarket) but when you expect a fat midrange from Subaru and dont get it, i'd be a little unhappy aswell. Swink33
I hear that the B4's mid range torque hole can be fixed with an aftermarket computer and a good tuner. It may be an option worth considering if you are a 'spirited' driver.
