Hey!

Prolly 40 cars rocked up. Was a mad day, those who didn't go missed out bigtime.

Me personally, I loved it. Had 18 runs ... with times ranging from 19.0 to 15.401 @ 88mph. Was aiming for mid 15's so im pretty happy with how i went for a basically stock 17 year old n/a. I think its time to bolt on a turbo after bein there today with lotsa faster cars!!!

Caught up with a few of the SAU fella's, good 2 catch up with a few of ya's again. Was a good friendly atmosphere and hope all of ya's can come join the fun next time!!!

Tim

Cya's on the 20th for the June cruise!

My first run was on my fm901's and i launced at low revs seeing i only just finished putting my diff in at 9am. Ran a 13.6@112mph.

I was happy with that and then launched a bit harder and did a 13.4@110 but was still slow off the line. The we put the 540s tyres on a did 3 passes each one with a either 2nd or 4th gear not going in properly. Went back to the pits and there was a loud noise from the gearbox so i decided not to run anymore so i could drive home. Now need new gear box.

It makes a large grinding noise when you back off and reverse gets stuck in. It was always going to happen i suppose.

Anyone got a rb25 gearbox for sale?

Gotta get ya moneys worth hehe. Had a ball! Was the best day in ages!

Also, with the cops crackn down on hoons in the next month I had to get my "fixmeup" at the track where i can't get done for it!

I wanted so bad 2 get under 15.5 and finally did it! Not bad for a older car i thought! Im proud of the old girl anyways! hehe

I actually did 17 runs btw. hehehe

Ivan munched his box i think too

Clint.. That sucks.. Is the RB25DET gearbox a simple bolt up (gearbox mounts, tail shaft, clutch?)

Thats an unreal Time Timmay... :P So what mods? Obviously it must be a manual and have an exhaust?

The inputshaft bearing on my gearbox isn't the best and is a bit noisy especially when idling and listening to it bounce off the car next to me. Probably wouldn't last if I hammered it at the drags.

How was the track preped?? Much grippier than the road or local set of lights :P

Hey Clint.. If you get a new gearbox I wouldn't mind fiddling with the one you have there, I want to have a go at rebuilding it.

I've done manual gearbox's in the past, it doesn't sound like anything real bad has happened to it.. A bit of a freshen up and it will be sweat again. :P

So if you want to flog it off let me know.

I need to find out if the box bolts up with no mods. But after fitting my diff im sure i cna handle something that requires some mods. I recieved the diff friday morning to find it had GTR 6 bolt output. So i had to find GTR drivshafts and hubs. No one coul tell me it they would bolt in or not, but after a few modifications it all bolted in ok and now i have a mechanical lsd.

Im now decideing between 32 box sell the car, 33 box with rb23, or 33 box with rb30.

Ivan did the CV joint.

Hehe I was one of the commentators - had a blast even though I didn't race.

I think fastest time of the day was a 10.4X (correction) from Keir's R32, then a 11.11 from one of the RX3 drag cars - and he backed off too!

Congrats to the freshly painted Green 180SX for burnout of the day - from the burnout spot to ways past the start line. Close second was Simon (I think) in Martin's Soarer which pulled some very nice burnouts too.

Unfortuately I didn't see any Skyline run under my PB :P .... but I'm sure times would be slightly better on a better prepared track and a slightly warmer day.

I think the Supercharged S2 Monaro did a best time of 12.7 which was pretty impressive, given most of the other LS1s ran about 14+ second passes (except Henry in 'Brute' who did some mid-13s as usual).

All in all a great day!!! I hope we can organise another one, by which time my car will have some more done to it so it's worth me racing :P Good so see so many SAU guys out there!

Yea joel Extractors exhaust and filter. It's a manual. Prolly only makes 90 somethin kw at the wheels. Goes alrite. Happy with it.

The track wasn't as grippy as i thought it'd be.. I was kinda expectin to be able to dump clutch at 4k or there abouts and for it 2 hook up and not bog down... only to discover the fine line between bog and spinnin the wheels.

So much better than an offstreeet meet. and no where near as many yobbo's.

yeah there were some great burnouts ... i had a good look at the green 180sx ... it had an rb25det with a T04,T03 turbo?? i think thats what he told me ... but he said he only had about 190kw at the wheels ... and even after all them burnouts that he did he still had plenty of tread left!!!! :P

Joel - I ran at the last 2 street meets and havent done any further mods so I figured there was no point running - I am a bit concerned about the wear and tear on things .... if I blow a gearbox or something the wife would kill me :P

Rest assured that I will be at the next one (if and when) .... and I hope to have around 200rwkw to break into the 12s!

anyone know what time Martins Soarer did, wasnt getting off the line to good ( a bit like me).

i saw he did a 13.3, and he told me his best today was 13.1, for a car with 345kw@rw and nitto tyre, i except he will do better than that.

very disappointed for me:( only did a best 14.5 today, i aim to do low 14 or even high 13, but with a full street trim, spare tyre and big sub box. with a nearly 100kg driver too.... :P

not able to said hello to most of the SAU member, as i never attend any cruise b4 and i was late this morning (damn, wake up at 9am is a VERY hard thing for me) anyway i am the asian who drive the silver R33, hopefully can meet u guys and say hello in next cruise.

p.s. with average 2.5 60" , i think i have to pratice my lanching skill...a lot!

thanks to RPM and SAU for putting on a top day at AIR :P

well managed to get 16 runs today and I thought I'd never say it but that was plenty

after putting up with wheel spin and some axle tramp with constant mid 13.4's I managed to pull a 13.39 @ 107.71 mph on 19" street tyres :P

thanks to everyone who attended hope we all can do it again and nice commentary from Nightcrawler, well done :(

    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
    • WRXs are a pure pleb boring car these days. You need to get an STI to even get close to what a WRX used to be.
