The site admins can create a paypal account where members deposit 1 dollar in.

SAU take 10% of money as a donation.

Rest of money is given as a division:

1st: 50%

2nd: 30%

3rd: 10%

So if 1000 people deposit money, SAU gets $100

1st gets 500

2nd gets 300

3rd gets 100

More people play, more money for SAU, more money for winners. If run weekly, i think its a good thing.

Each player that enters is assigned a number, then pmed or emailed that number.

Some program off the net randomly chooses a number.

Winner is sent money and announced.

haha sounds nice.

For every $1 you get 1 point. More dollars put in, more points for member and increases chances of winning for that week/month

Sau takes a percentage, and winner takes a split.

Or Sau could use the money and purchase prizes to give the winner.

As passing money around could be shifty some how haha

I was reading up on it. We have to make it a prize other than cash, otherwise like you said, we need a license.

So what prizes do people want? I want this to be a cash prize so you can spend it on what you like, i will research more and see how much a license is and if its free, what the requirements are.

I was thinking of using this generator to decide the winners

http://www.mdani.demon.co.uk/para/random.htm

Generate 3 pseudo-random integers between 1 and (amount of people who participated)

3 numbers are generated (no repeats) and those are the winners, from left to right 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Ok i have read up, if the prize does not exceed 2000 dollars, then we do not need a license.

Edit, CASH prize is capped at 5000 dollars and no license is needed in NSW.

please read, incase i didnt read correctly. We fall under Draw lotteries.

More specifically http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/gofc_fs_rraffles.pdf

Ye, but remember each state is different. You need to check all the laws.

And what surrounds them in each state if your running it forum wide. (and the laws of restricting it considering its overseas users aswell)

Just another thing to think about :P

whats wrong with one person buying more than one entry? the more entries the greater the prize money...

abit like lottery...its not like ur trying to cheat by putting in more entries

the more u pay, the higher the chance u win...

Seriously though... think about it another way. If even a quarter of members donated $5 a year rather than going in a raffle.

Which, again takes time to set up... the donation feature is already there.

The idea itself is great, but if you really wanted to help, a faster and more direct way would be donating.

You get bigger PM box, a nice user bar and a few other bonus forum things.

And if we had more people putting in $5, probably we'd be able to offer more things to people for their $5

SAU would run itself totally self sufficient, be on the fastest possible AUS servers and be a forum above and beyond all else.

The best ideas are to donate, and let us focus the funds when we need them :P

Its not like $5 is a lot of money. Most peoples lunch costs more than that these days.

1.3 cents a day even if you break it down :P

Adopted this idea from austech forum;

Moderator chooses a random number between 1-999

Moderator creates thread and says guess number to win prize

Moderator states 1 entry per person Or 3 entries if participant is paying member.

When number is guessed, prize is given

This is what austech does for its members and no setting up is even needed. Just a random number and a thread.

Change the rules to make only paying member can guess number.

All you would need to check will be if the winner has paid :D
