I attended the CAMS State Council meeting in Lithgow today along with carlo and Majanal.

The Council accepted our application with the result being Skylines Australia NSW is now affiliated with CAMS.

:jump: :P :headbang: :band: :rave:  :headspin:

Any financial members can apply for competition licenses and we can get insurance cover for events.

If you are interested in knowing more about CAMS go to http://www.cams.com.au/default.asp, the link for license info is here.

For the basic Level 2S license go here to read about Speed Events and Motorkhanas. These are the typical club level events that we would be going along to. Initially we will be contacting other clubs and asking if we can come along and join their events.

If you have any questions that can't be answered on the site drop me an email/pm and I'll do my best to answer it. :P

A big thanks to Dino for organising and following through on this.

Also to Carlo and Dan for their part.

This is a big step forward for the club and I'm sure other members and potential members will benefit from the work put in from the above mentioned folks,

Cheers you guys !

Well, when registering for events (race, sprint, hillclimb etc) you need to show your current CAMS membership card, which is issued by the club you belong to. Only thing is, both clubs I've been in (Honda and Improved Production) had same membership cards with CAMS logos on them.

Just wondering how that will work for us, I can check direct with CAMS if you like, or maybe you guys have some sort of liason contact.

Another q, what do we do to get CAMS insurance for our events, do we have any rules/guidelines we need to follow, or can we just declare our Fast n Furious drive in night an SAU event.

Oh, and can the club now issue L2S CAMS licenses? How will they be administered?

Sorry for all the q, I just think this is a really important step forward for the club, and it would be great for members to understand more about what it means.

I'll check with CAMS on monday, I have no doubt it's changed and what you say is correct. Maybe we can just put the CAMS logo on our cards now. :P

That's what I was learning about today. They are going to clarify just what exactly the requirements are. There's a 6 week lead time to get a permit (if required, and it probably will be). Go to the CAMS NSW link and read the April Tale Spin Newsletter for a bit more info.

Go to the link in the first post for the license info. It's probably just as easy to send the form straight back to CAMS rather than to us. It will definately be processed quicker. L2S is the basic one required for speed events.

I agree, keep 'em coming.

:P

Good timing too - can announce at the SAU NSW qtrly meeting tomorrow.

Dare I say, the first BIG (HUGE) milestone for the club after 12+ months of operation.

Well done again - and very proud/pleased to be a member of such a professional & affiliated organisation.

Duncan,

That course we did at Finlays, what license does it allow us to obtain?

That is the "Observed License Test", lets you get full C3 circuit racing license.

Hillclimbs, sprints etc just require L2S which SAU can now issue :D

I think that you have to get C3 within 12 months of course - so y'all better hurry up if you don't want to do it again!

    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes. Greddy bovs. Top-secret coolant reservoir. Emtron ecu. Straight E85. Built gear box.
    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
