Name That Sound!

Hey guys, not sure where to put this sorta topic. But here it goes..

I've noticed recently a "grinding" noise from my engine bay, when accelerating from around 1500, and fading away at 2000 rpm.

It's not a BAD grinding noise.. its not like going from 5th gear down to reverse , but a gradual rattling/scraping sound getting softer then dissapearing as the RPM's pick up.

Would anyone have an idea of what it could be? And what I could do to remedy this? Or is it something that I can live with?

Sounds to me like u need a new timing belt...

How many k's has u'r car done, and do u know if your belt has ever been changed??

Japs recommend to change at 100,00km

Hmmm.. atiming belt, aye? It's done just under 100.. I'll definitely look into it. Am I able to replace it myself?

(BTW: I have a 96 r33 s2)

TIMING BELT!

I had the same sound a month ago,....gaaaaaaawn, after TB changed!!

im yet to do the timing belt... but i think i remember hearing this sound... sounded more like a clutch noise to me...

Got a similar thing, car makes this weird 'rough' sound which sounds a little bit rougher then normal idle but it disappears when you depress the clutch. Looks like more excuses not to buy an exhaust!

if the noise disappears over 2k rpm i'd guess its the timing belt too...

probably best for a mechanic to install as messing it up can REALLY f**k your car

that 'particular' noise could be (and most probably is) your thruster bearing, located in your gearbox.

It's a $5.00 part that requires approx $500 in labour....that sux!!
