Hello all,

Well i have my car back from the dyno after having all the new toys put in. At the moment my car sits in the driveway with the following attached to it.

Power Fc

Highflowed GCG turbo

550cc injectors

walbro fuel pump

Apexi air pod

Z32 AFM

FMIC

3inch Exhaust from turbo back

manual ball&spring boost controller

Mv automatics Shift Kit

I think thats it. Now i must say first and foremost that even though i am content with the result i am not super happy with it. I will post up a pic of the dyno result tonight sometime.

Ok now to the result

I got 222.8rwkw on 95 octane fuel @13psi

One of the things i was not overly impressed with was the way that this eventuated. the tune was done very conservatively and a few little thing occurred that would have made the result much better. I wasn't 100% sure about whether i should put BP ultimate in it... I know now that i should have but if they had have told me to fill up with the stuff - seeing as i was near on empty - i was told that i would have gained another 30rwkw (or thereabouts). Also i was told that the tuner wasn't sure whether i had a high flowed turbo. Now this would have been a simple thing to do, i would have thought. So even though i have the potential for about another 20-50kw with more boost and tuned for 98 octane, it would have been very simple and nice to just have had a bit more input into the tune.. (i wasnt allowed to be there when they were working on it) :O

Dont get me wrong it is a vast increase in what i had but when i think about what could have been and what i payed.... to get something that could have been better i am only content not at my happiest......

Anyway enough of the dribble i will post up the dyno graph later tonight.. and probably get a re-tune in a few months/weeks (lol) Just one very important thing to add......... I have an Automatic Skyline R33 and the Power Fc runs in it with no problems, no poor shifting and nothing different to when it had the factory computer in it... like stated above i put a shift kit in it and that is the only modification that the gearbox has..

Okidoki thats it from me... would love any feed back that u guys want to post :P

wow thats a bit disapointing. i only usualy hear good things from that workshop. i think i would have been a bit anoyed about it as im asuming you had told him it had a hiflow.

as far as fuel goes if you use it a as a daily than if it was me would be better off with a premo tune to save a bit of money on fuel.

and at the end of the day a tuner doesnt want A) to blow your engine on the dyno B) for you to drive it away and blow it a week later.

but good result anyway.

could you pm me how much it was as i need to get a tune soon.

thanks damien

That "bump" is tune related. You will find that the dip may correspond with the AFR running very rich in that area.

Do you have the AFR graph? If so post it up, please.

Why was it tuned in 3rd gear, not 4th? Even though the peak power is the same, 4th gear creates a bigger load on the engine, thus will have a higher probabiity of pinging/detonation, which should be detected and tuned out.

Why are the axis' so large, when the graph is so small? ; are they hiding something? Squashing the graph generally hides imperfections in the tune (makes the tune look smoother, than it really is).

Q1 - No sorry i dont have a AFR Graph - didnt get one.

Q2 - Why was it tuned in 3rd gear?? Don't know.. I wasnt allowed to be there when it was going on. Maybe OH&S don't know why.. I wasnt asked about anything, i.e what i wanted or anything like that. The process was a little like hearding sheep. In and out ASAP...(thats what it seemed like) I asked him what the outcomes was like and he told me all this stuff within a minute or so and then left. That was the total contact i had with the tuner.

Q3 - Axis'large..... I don't know. I am not an expert in this field and like i will probably get it retuned somewher in hobart at a later time...

I can say one thing though... And this is just my opinion, I know that many ppl have left that place very happy with their tune, that is namely the reason why i went there, but i will not be going back there again for anything car related....

Sounds like you have had some mixed results cobber, shame really cause you always here people recommend to go there becuase of there customer service.

The graph doesn't look that bad but as mentioned it doesn't look like boost creep with the dip...

From what i've read (i have based my opinion on so please dont get your knickers in a knot  ) but you would have to accept some of the responsiblity when it comes to what fuel you are running to get the car tuned too (98 or 95RON) and also letting them know what mods you had in the car and what you wanted from the tune.

I know you said you weren't allowed to hang around (some tuners will do that) as it can slow things up and cost you more, BUT they still should of spent a little time with you before and after to discuss what you wanted/happened.

Being an auto i would say thats why they have loaded it up in 3rd for the tune, could & most probably very wrong with that assumption but if you take into account being an auto, with auto rear the ratio's are obviously different if it was a manual.

If your not happy (which you obviously are not) then i would go back and let them know that and also see what you/they can do to fix it, be it a little more time on the rollers for 98RON and up the boost a little.

At the end of the day its only a figure on a bit of paper chief, whats important is how it drives on the road ;)

Keeps us informed how it all goes, im interested to hear what they have to say if you go back!!!

Cheers GMB

I must say that now that one, i have spent a day with the car and two, my "knickers"are unlangled... lol It does drive well. Yesterday was not the best day for having a test drive due to many things. Today i took it to work (120km's) and it seems ok (from a driving perspective) I did notice the knock sensor coming on a couple of times yesterday at strange times. One time was driving up a hill (relativly steep hill) and as i was slowing down for a T intersection the car splutterd and farted around for a couple of seconds then i backed off the throttle ASAP and it stopped.. Hasnt done anything like that since..

I do realise that it is only a figure.. and it is an auto/sedan so there would be more loss in the drive train than that of a manual so i am not unhappy about the result.. I am sure that many people would feel the same in that a little bit more communication would have gone a long way... And just one thing... i did let them know the mods i have...

Anyway I can't wait for this Tassie Sau cruise thing to happen... has there been any progress with the date?????

Thanks

Ben

That does sound disappointing, both in power and experience, I've got a 34 with slightly less mods which will be getting tuned soon, and that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. One really curious point is the Power FC, mine's also the automatic, and I've always been told that the Power FC is an absolute impossibility with an auto box, which is the reason why I now have an SAFC instead of the PFC. Can I ask who installed it for you? If I can put a PFC without a manual conversion then its certainly news to me.

Hope you manage to get everything sorted with your tune tho :)

I agree with GMB, i mean it is just a figure on paper, but you also would like to get your moneys worth when compared to the cash outlay, i mean benny went to a lot of trouble making aure hw had the parts and everythin was ready and all fine for a tune.

I too recon you should take it back to Sheriff and ask for a retune at a cheper rate as you are unhappy with it.

Oh well on the upside new coils on teh way under waranty, now it's bigger turbo time yeeehhhaaaa.

got to talk to the wife first, DAm.

Well i cant speak for a R34... I don't know if the 33 and 34 are different in the auto boxes. What i heard is that there is a difference between the r33 series 1 and series 2 gearbox computers. Therefore u "supposedly" can do it in a series 1 (like what i have) but u cant in a series 2 .. I don't know anyone with a s2 auto so i could try it... A manual conversion would be expensive though.. New gearbox, tail shaft, diff and other bits and bobs i belive.. and then the labour on top of that... might get expensive

i cant believe you are NOT allowed to be there while they tuned it.

thats crazy

its ur car, ur money, you need to have a say.

I would ahve thopught the same, but its over now and it could be coz of occupational health and saftey reasons.. Or public liability... bloody insurance companies

would the bump from changing gears, cause you can't fully lock it in 3rd can you, cause it would have kicked back to 2nd when he opened it up.

It shouldn't be from the gear changes... ( i say this not having seen it on the dyno) but i am pretty sure that u can slowly take an auto through the gear without it changing gears. Over 80kph (around abouts) it should not kick back anymore

Ah fair enough then, if you can't do it on a S2 R33, you prolly can't on the 34 I guess. The 34 is tiptronic too, so it'd be an entirely different gearbox computer too.

What i would do if i was u would be ring MV automatics in adelaide and ask mick there about your car. From everything i have read, heard and have been told he isthe man with auto's So i will try and lok for the number and pm it to you but in the mean time have a search for it on the forum somewhere...

I was meaning that it starts in 2nd. cause it would be low revs in 3rd, then you flatten it to start the power run, so it would kick back to 2nd, then change into 3rd around the bump. Cause if it was in 2nd, it would read more grunt.

I just noticed this yesterday and i had a closer look at the graph.. If u look at the kmph down the bottom then u will notice that the max speed is 105 kmph.. To me this indicates that the whole dyno run was done in 2nd gear and only 2nd gear. My car will do about 105-110 in 2nd

This seems odd to me. Maybe someone can clarify why they would run it in second.. Other than that they can lock it in gear... But would i be right in thinking that this would give a false readout of power????? due to the gearing ratio is not final gear...

Correct me if i am wrong plz.. just something i noticed

Also something that i noticed is that where the bump/spike whatever it is occurs the bppst goes down. how can power go up when boost goes down????
