Unclip the front cover

Picture005-1.jpg

Remove the 3 screws holding the button section to the unit and remove the button section.

Remove the 2 screws holding the board in place. Push the back of the 4 lights either side of the gang connector to the right of the display. This will push the board out from behind and unclip it from the connector.

Remove the globes

Fit the LEDs, they’re very snug and may click into place, once in, rotate them to lock them into place, may be easier to push with your finger nail.

Push the board back onto the connector, plug the unit in to make sure all the LEDs are the correct way around an illuminate. If any don’t light up note which ones they are and replace them turning them 180 degrees. Retry and confirm you’ve got them all the right way around.

Now there are 2 options, you can either remove the light diffuser so the LEDs don’t foul on the inside of the unit (some clever angling of the LEDs will get perfect dispersion), or modify the light diffuser by drilling/melting out the section where the LEDs line up.

Once done, replace the screw and put back together (reverse of taking apart)

what does this mean? do i have to do this? and why?

Cheers

Hi Dan,

The lights being so bloody tiny in tungsten form only have a small area to sit, with the LED type they are slightly bigger so need some extra room made behind the diffuser...this is the only option I'm afraid.

would i loose much light if i removed the light diffuser? intead of drilling/melting it down?

what he said? can any1 confirm which method works best?

oh and pics of finished results would be awesome to :)

Ok, just did mine last night. You need patience to do this.. it kinda gay for something that should be easy.. how many people does it take to change a light globe kind of thing.

So.. I pulled out the A/C unit. Took the front cover off it and Unscrewed the circuit board. Spent a few mins figuring out how to get the circuit board out ( you do need to get it out). Take 666dans advice here and use a screw driver and push on the back of the old globes and the circuit board pushes out with them.

so.. i put em all out and put the LED ones in (either use your thumbnail or a large flat blade screwdriver to push and turn them in) Went back to the car with it in pieces still and tried it out. Shit.. i was unlucky with the 50/50 chance and got them all the wrong way. Pulled it out and turned all the LED's around the other way. Test again.. they all lit up. Hey they are really bright!

So thats kool. Now to get the cover back on. It wont fit with clear plastic diffusers in place so i took them out and tried it out in the car again. Wow that looks totally shit.. can barely see most of the lights and one is stoopidly bright. This is the point i went inside and read this tutorial properly. hmmm... seems that people had sucess with moving the LED's so they point in certain directions.. tried this and it looked better but still crap.

Well, looks like ill have to modify the diffuser. If you try and keep the diffusers in there with the LED's it will just squash them and pop them out of the socket. you DO need to make more space for them. Now i thought i would be a smarty and file the end of each LED down using sandpaper and that would give them enough room so sit in there. It would also disperse the light better. Nope.. it was a lot closer but still not enough room. Used a drill and VERY VERY carefully drilled down until i was just touching the 'V'. This will only make sense once you look at the diffuser closely. Tried it again. all good.

Final results.. it works and i can see the buttons now. Its not very bright though but thats a good thing. If i could find the stock globes i would buy them to save most of this hassle but it does look ok

the exciting part about it is that i can actually SEE the controls now. Before this i was fumbling around in the dark pressing all the buttons. Colour does match the dash cluster now

looks awesome bro!

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
