received an email from a mate, thought Id share:

The patent holder of "the clear wheel" and a company called Forgiato are now making clear mag wheels (20in or 22in only) with glass-like finish hard coated 50mm thick polycarbonate centre. The centre is 1.5 or 2" polycarbonate, chemical hard coated both sides.

Weight for the 20" mag is 27 lbs, and the 22" mag is 38 lbs (complete wheel weight)

All other parts of the wheel are forged 6061t aluminium (Inner and outer hoops and Hub centre)

SAE tested, certified and passed Impact, cornering and radial tests.

RRP is $5000.00 per wheel

$5grand USD each. $20g usd a set of 4, say 30grand AUD once imported with taxes paid? Anyway, Id say give it 5 yrs and they'd be affordable, I guess a bit like a plasma tv which where in the tens of thousands when new to the market, or like a dvd player which used to retail at 2 grand - now they have come down over time to 50bucks.

very old, very tacky

just like spinners i can only see these stupid things taking off in the usa.....or japan.

a few years ago at the sema show they had clear rims that had L.E.D's in them and when the wheel spun it created a customized message. it looked pretty trippy but still so tacky

Can you remove the glass or something? Cuz brake dust gonna coat the inside of the glass and you can't clean it?

i know im just covering minor details here, but it isnt glass, its polycarbonate, there is a difference.

and i sincerely doubt theyre meant for show purposes only, not the street.

theyre not practical, they'd be heavy, a 20"x2" plate of polycarb is not light by any stretch of the imagination.
