boost controller - bleed valve

Recommended Posts

ive just fitted a bleed valve to my gts25t to wind up to boost to 10

pounds.

Someone told me the other day that a bleed valve can be really bad for the motor and eventually blow it up! Is this correct? if so what precautions should i follow? or should i just pull the thing off?

i think thats why ur friend is telling u it could blow it up .. if u set it very high .. it might creep higher than the turbo can tolerate .. but 10 psi should be fine .. r33 should be able to stand 13 or maybe 14 absolute max .. run 12 absolute max to be safe is the general consensus ... someone correct me if i'm wrong.

if u run 12psi which is rougly 0.8 bar you should be having quite a bit of fun. though u should go for a EBC which will ultimately hold boost better.

13-14 psi is ok with an R33 but i wouldnt go near there without an FMIC

I use a GFB bleeder (I think it's called the Atomic Boost Controller or something along those lines). My mechanic is a GFB reseller so he gets their parts quite cheaply. I've forgotten the price, but it was around $60 or slightly more. I was going to make my own, but at that price the parts would have been more. I really like GFB products as they're cheap and do the job.

Actually one other thing. I don't think the GFB one is double gated (is that what they call it?), so it just bleeds instantly meaning it isn't like an EBC and holds the wastegate shut until it reaches the preset level. Some bleeders can do this.

My TurboXS one works fine on my R32 GTST.

I've set it to 13psi and on a cold night, when I mash my foot, it will spike to about 14psi then settle back down to 13psi..

I bought it 2nd hand for $50.

new they are about $110.. (retail)

the GFB atomic is also $110 (retail). unless you know someone..

yeh you got it cheap..

details for those that haven't seen the GFB boost controller.

Quote from GFB..

"GFB puts the key to boost control in YOUR hands! All turbocharged vehicles utilize some form of factory boost control, most of which display a tendency to be conservative in allowing the boost to build up, and then taper away noticeably toward redline (see diagram). A GFB Boost Controller however, not only allows quick and easy boost level adjustment, but it can also reduce the boost threshold (the RPM at which boost starts to rise) and maintain a rock-steady upper limit.

The simple explanation is - more power, earlier and longer!

$109 including GST (Part No. 3001)"

umm the GFB atomic whatever bleed valve is what i have in myn set for 12, i was told by dyno tuner is that if you keep the lines shorter, you will get less spike, and on teh dyno, we set it for 12psi, and it spiked to 12.3 at max i think.....

so my advice is keep lines short....

secondly, i think autobarn sell it for like $69 or 70 but its not that dear...

bleeder systems don't stack up very well against electronic boost control. The boost is quicker to build and more stable on the ebc.

I would love to turf the turbosmart bleeder valve.

$100compiared to a 500unit....on bleed valves check it on a dyno and adjust it so it dosent spike anyhigher than you would like it to. All bleed valves spike no doubt
