i have a RB24 with hks gt2540 and im looking into cams for it. so rb20 cam info is what im looking for.

from what i understand ive heard a lot of ppl using the tomei poncams in/ex 256 with 8.5 lift. these are stage 1 i believe.

what are the differences if i was to go stage 2? guessing the valve springs would need to be changed also.

guessing that cam gears dont have to stay same brand as shafts also???

what are the gains to be made and price/availability on everything.

BIG thanks

matt

yo huddy time for bigger lump lump cams

and bigger turbo I think 3037 or td06 25g lol

step 2 cams normally would require some sort of valve spring upgrade on a rb20 saw some upgrade springs the other day cheap

otherwise highoctane do them for $540-$740

cams are always on yahoo brand new mainly tomei ones $200ish each so probably around $600+ landed

then you gotta get gears I would just get the same brand although other brands should fit

all up look at close to 1k for a set of step 1's installed closer to 2k for step 2 due the vavle springs

this also all depends on the lift you get aswell there may well be step 2's out there that dont require the springs to be done?

Huddy im about to install cams on my RB20 set up and have looked into it a fair bit the last few weeks.

You would be waisting your money with 256 cams and also cam gears in my opinion. You want to be matching the cams with your set up and also what your goals are with the engine eg: are you wanting to make more top end or quicker response???

With the 24 and your turbo then i would be looking at either 264 or 270 cams. When it comes to upgrading your springs (can be costly) again it depends on the lift of the cams you go with and how much boost you are going to be running and the health of the stockers.

I've been told that the stock springs will be ok upto 9.1lift but anything over that then you would have to replace.

Price wise has been a little varied with the quotes i've got so far, and then when i think i have found a bargain i seem to get stooged :)

Interested to see your results

grandmasterb...if one were looking for quicker response instead of more top end then would 256s be ok?

and huddy...didn't you have a 2530 on your car and not a 2540?

Really depends on your current set up and what your goals are cobber???

hmm ok

might just go gears for now - as simple to fit, even if there is no gains, at least i can utillize them later down the track.

i did used to have the GT2530, but i've got the GT2540 now - 241rwkw ;) feels nice.

Let us know how it goes :)
