have you taped up the coils at all? if not try that too. i'd clean the terminals in the coils then tape them up. i think that should help.

or you could have someone sit under the bonnet while you go for a drive..........

are you offering? lol

here's the thing though. at 10psi theres no prob.

at 11 psi theres no prob.

so far it's only happened at 12+

i set my boost to 10psi, and i never intended to run 12psi.

so by my reasoning, if i keep boost under 11, it shouldnt be a problem, right?

what is happening is that the spark is basically being blown out. there is too much fuel/air for the spark to ignite. platinum plugs are only good becuase they are supposed to last a long time but i don't think they spark as well as coppers or iridiums.

i second mad082 with my life.

i would never use plats ever. theyre only good for engines where the sparkplugs are hard to get to.

most of us on here have had that problem, spec with r33's.

if you have access to a test meter, get it checked out.. from memory i think if the resistance is around 200k its ok.. if its around 8k then its faulty.. the coil packs..

id start with the simpler things tho, clean coils, spring, tape/silicone the coils.. chck for any arcing..

at night, take it for a hard drive till it happens.. lift the bonnet and give it a rev or 2.. check for any arcs.. if u see arcs then uv found the culprit!

so you guys think iridiums will be a better plug, if it turns out my coils are fine?

(i'd rather not use coppers. i've heard too many stories of them breaking down after less than 5000 kms).

also, can u explain the coil pack resistance test in a bit more detail.

cheers

i ran coppers on my 33 at 14psi and they lasted 10,000kms before i changed them, and they weren't missing at all. they still had probably another 5,000 or 10,000kms in them. they are less than $4 each, so it isn't that expensive. the iridiums i took out of my car were supposedly only about 20,000km old and they were shagged. iridiums are about $25 each and don't really last that much longer. if you use coppers, the money you will spend on spark plugs over a 50,000km period would be the same as buying 1 set of iridiums.

either bcpr6es, or bkr6es (i'm not 100% sure if the bkr ones had an s on the end or not). they are basically the same plug, the bkr one is just a v groove plug. but i have run them both with good results.

hey guess what? the mechanic i used for my major service just after i bought my car, who overtensioned my timing belt, and i went back, got him to redo it, then told him he's a monkey, and will never go back again. well that same c0cksucker ordered and installed ngk platinums 1.1mm, after i specifically told him to use the 0.8mm.

anyway, i had my coil packs out last week to check for cracks, burns, etc.... and i pulled out my plugs while i was at it, and found the wrong gap. regapped them to 0.8mm. so far so good. no more missfire. hopefully this solved it for good. i didnt bother touching the coil packs.
