dont laugh - I was serious!!

gtir's are awesome little shopping trolleys, have a His and Hers

hahah..nah just imagining a 54 yr old woman and a 64 year old man racing each other in their sliding turboed gtirs!! lol

hhmm, so mum wants a new car huh?

my tip - get the gtir for ya old man, he'll love ya for it.

then go thru the new car yards and look to pick up an old model on a runout sale..... I bought a new daewoo nubira for 15k (leather interior, disc brakes, mags, all options, etc) that way, when daewoo discontinued that model and brought out something new. 3yrs later its done 16000kms :) Might sell it for a M35 Stagea :D

actually...dad wants to get a BMW later down the track - when he retires that is....in about a year or 2

your mum would love something like this:

:D

good luck with whatever you decide on. The Jazz is pretty neat inside with the amount of room you've got........... (bit of a tip there)

Put the money towards a down payment on an M5 :) . Just make sure he lets you drive it :D .

man id get that stagea for myself!

yeah the jazz is pretty good...luved the paddle shift! haha...was soo much fun to drive...wish my next high performance car has it....

Rabid - i wish man....the guy wants to get a 318 or a 320 sedan....if he did get the m5, id be questioning my own sanity....as well as his

I went through this same decision about a year ago. In the end chose the mazda 2 and have been very happy. Ultimately it handled far better and felt far safer (for a small car). I believe the honda jazz merely loaded the larger body onto the honda civic chassis.

Drive both of them...you'll see what I mean.

oh..The fold down/roll forward rear seats in mazda 2 are fanastic too. With the rear seats forward I have even been able to transport large items such as a fully boxed diswasher (even standing up!) etc.

I suspect the mazda 2 will hold resell better too. It's packaged well as a sporty stylish small car. :)

yeah - I quite like the mazda 2 'genki' - its got 4 more airbags than the jazz and better brakes. I will be going in tommorrow to mulgrave mazda to talk to the guy again, see how the seats fold etc.....

sis-in-law has a mazda 6, its fantastic....gonna be hard to convince dad though.....but i will have to see what happens tommorrow....

After the trouble ive had with my wifes new VTI Jazz and the hard time Honda gave us ending in having to trade the dog at 13months old (Dangerous problem from 800km old never fixed)I'd hate to see anyone stuck with one.We were treated bad by the dealer and Honda Australia.Problems very detailed so i wont go there but it could have killed someone.

well guys...almost done - its the mazda 2 'genki'.

Brought home the mazda 2 neo and mum loved it....dad was impressed too (but hes not as open about how he feels about the car). But then again, dad is a German car fan.

so tis 21990 drive away, less trade in for our 85 accord and 82 civic (i cant be stuff prepping the cars for private sale & it will cost more to fix and get roadworthy). I figure might as well go for the top range genki, as it has more safety features. Plus I didnt know this, but honda jazz's are made in thailand and not japan. So thats a big no no in my books. But Mazdas are built in japan. So yep - in a month or so, there will be a new mazda next to the R33 in the garage :P

You do realize Mazda is about to release a completely new model of the 2, right? Perhaps you should hold off to get a runout special price, or, the updated model.

yeah i realise that....dad doesnt like the new look 2, and mum doesnt really care about it. She wanted a new, safe, and relatively cheap to run car...and this sounds like an excellent deal. With regards to the price, I think this is not bad - its almost 4 grand off the RRP, and less our trade in. But I will be trying to get them to put extra on it like tinted windows etc.

Rabid - yeah, its quite amazing how zippy it is. We were comparing it to the holden camira that my mum drives, soo much better (but then again the camira is 19 years old now). And if anyone is going for the 2, the 'genki' is the pick of the bunch...looks good with all the extra additions too.

Did you try out the Swift?

My girlfriend and I have just purchased a Swift.

The choice came down to between the Swift and the Mazda 2 after trying out all the rest.

The biggest thing for us was drive feel, build quality and room.

The drive was about the same in both, but the swift tended to feel a bit better in build quailty and definitely had more room.

The Mazda just looked way too plastic inside compared to the Swift.

And for the price difference we were able to talk the Suzuki rep down on price.

We ended up getting the base model of the Swift too, as she has a friend who got the sport model and for the extra money you would be better off spending it elsewhere on the car in your own way. Plus the "updated" interior looked worse than the standard interior!

Discussed the swift with mum - but she liked the look of the mazda 2. I like the interior of the swift though...very sport on the inside. But then again, this is for my parents - So I didnt tell them what to get or not get. They just made the choice in the end. Now to fork out the 20g, and start saving all over again.....

Well guys - its official - mazda 2 genki has been purchased. $21,990 including ORCs. Will be picking up the car on wednesday. Got nothing for trade ins (1982 Honda Civic hatch, and 1985 Honda Accord sedan). So those cars will be sold to a wrecker or to my dads mechanic - and i will be putting htem up for sale on SAU but with no rwc or anything.

oh oh oh....i get hte first drive of the mazda 2 (from the dealership back to our house) :(

i was going to type up a huge reply but then i realised i could sum it up in one word....

golf

lol - that was a bit out of my price range. I wanted one that was cheapish to run, got all the relevant safety and also lots of space (for the dog + shopping). Mazda 2 was the way to go. Plus My bro and sis-in-law bought their mazda 6 from the same guy, and when i went in looking for hte mazda mx-5 i went to the same guy too...so we got quite a bit off, plus they are giving us more discounts when it comes to service....worked out well i reckon (specially when im now looking to build a house too - the financials are just right at the moment).

edit: perhaps if the other 2 cars dont get sold, id just take it to the wreckers anyway - by killing the 20 year old hondas, probably would help the environment out too....

the update - we got the car on friday....and here are some pics. I drove it heaps on friday and sat - its nice to drive, but the high altitude driving position kinda gives me a headache....

BTW - that honda civic in the pic is for sale for $800 ono

looks good, nice colour too.

and it's good that you didn't get the swift sport either. the sport model doesn't even have a spare wheel (just a repair kit)

i think that either the 2 or the corolla were the best options, and you went with one, yay...lol

oh and congrats on the purchase
