And there is 20 different ways to high flow a turbo.

What makes you think this is done exactly the same as the one you were looking at?

I still don't have my specs to tell hows its going to perform either?

Settle Kettle :D How many Skyline high flows have you heard about using Hitachi/RX7 bits? I only know of one place and thats ATS, so odds are its from the same place and very similar spec...im just answering the guys question

As for specs..all very interesting but i would trust seat of the pants experience over a few charts everytime ;)

OK got some close up pics and some more info, but in reality the guy has no idea about it.

Turbine housing Ratio and what it's off: Exaust housing is from a skyline. I have a rb20 standard turbo and the exaust housing look the same except this one has a much lager exaust wheel.

I will take some more photos tonight. here is the photos i had when it was rebuilt tho and 2 pictures of a standard rb20 turbo, so you can see the diference in the exaust wheel.

the person who build it said 300 hp would be achevable, however i was never dynod or tuned so i can confurm anything.

300Hp seams a bit low, but i recon this might be ok. I know what you guys think but do these pics help any more at all????

if it was a good turbo then he would have kept it and got it tuned etc

i suspect he is selling it cos it sucks. rotaries flow completely different to std piston engines so you may find its laggy as a bitch

and then when it comes on, it might be ok. he might have had issues with it surging its ass off while ramping on boost (who knows, and thats the honest truth). i mean its your call. whats the total cost to fit this turbo to your car?

Cost of teh turbo to bolt up including turbo is $200. with warranty left on the reco job. He is selling as he has no idea about car by the looks of things and crashed the car.

Ive heard of rx7/rb25 highflows doing a good job... word of mouth tho

if its $200, then buy it. if its a dog once installed then send it to Slide and have it redone. will still come in at same price roughly to a new slide highflow. as i said before. sometimes youve got to take a gamble and go by your gut feel.

I have one on my Rb20 cefiro engine, its a HT18S off a S4 Rx7 which has been rebuily by ATS at some point. The turbo also has a Rb20 exhaust housing that has been modified to fit onto the turbo still keeping the original steel turbine though. It has made 160RWKW on 10psi and full boost (18psi) comes in around 3000-3200rpm, turbo spool up isnt the best though. My car has been off the road for some time so i haven't been able to dyno it at 18psi, not a bad turbo though, i only paid $500 for mine.

Surely he would have a sheet from the reco of the turbo on what they did, and IF they replaced the core/wheels on it, the only way to measure wheel sizes is to remove one housing at a time grab some verniers and measure the outside of the wheels. That said id say 300hp would be acceptable for a turbo of that nature but not too much more.

Just remember although it is good to try something different, your paying dyno time aswell for tune etc. If your not happy with it thats going to waste your money, im pretty sure thats what people are trying to say about unknown hybrids vs A brand you can trust, its a gamble at the end of the day, but one that costs money

I would ring Aron up and tell him or show him pics of the thing before buying it . If the turbines exducer diametre is larger than the turbine he uses then the exhaust housings no good . For a bolt on he'd probably prefer the compressor housing from a std RB20 or 25 turbo .

Guys there really is nothing magic about the Hitachi bush bearing cartridge . Dimensionally tis very similar/same as a Garrett T3 and probably made under license - nothing special .

At a guess I'd say JMS used a combination of parts to have a "turbo" made because the bits were lying around . I think years ago I tracked down the people who dynoed that car with that Hi Flow and they admitted that is was surgy and laggy and only made some Ok numbers at higher revs . In its final form I believe that car had some form of rotary Jap aftermarket IHI turbo fitted and being developed from a proper set of components worked to a degree though if memory serves me correctly the turbine housing was rather large .

My advice is don't buy anything with an 8/16 blade T04B compressor because any turbine worth having won't work even passably with it .

thanks guys, well go some more details. originaly the tubo was setup for an R31, but ran on a Rb20. The turbo was built, recoed by ATS in vic, so i'll be giving them a call soon.

Thanks for all the advice guys, i'm going to send the pic to Aaron and see what he says, but the turbo is as new, in teh sence of a rebuild. The guys tells me, if it's true, that the turbo was ran for 3 months after rebuild, and then the engine died so he is goind to a different engine.

Anyway will see what i do, might be worth a try. Wait to see what else i can dig up.

is it a bush or ball bearing core?

does the owner know. You dont wanna buy it and then starve the bearings cause its a bush bearing, or flood the bearings cause its a ball bearing!

    • I know mentally you're set on the ATS clutch but honestly I'm a big fan of the Nismo Super Coppermix Twin. It's much cheaper and in some ways I think it's a better design for a street/circuit car.
    • Just checked in first post and you should be able to bring it home November this year, right? I'm amazed you made it through four years of this. As hard as it feels now the rest will go by in a breeze in hindsight, I'm sure.
    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
