hey guys how accurate is the stock oil pressure guage on the dash? cause mines doin wierd things....like when i go around 70 then step on the brakes and then slow down my oil guage points to the 0 and the oil light comes on i know this is indicating that it may be low on oil...

but as soon as the car is stationary...then oil needle climbs back onto the 2....so yeah wierd problem :P hmmmi can't check the oil cause i have no dip stick atm so yeah ! ;) or would it be a dodgy oil controler or etc ? the car has been servicd with mobil 1 fully synthetic oil around 1000 km ago...and i also topped up a little with the 1 litre bottles so yeah danno if its empty on oil or the guage is just being gay and not working properly the car also has a leak on the half moon seals so thus why i bought the 1 litre bottle from b4 to top up ne loss in oils the oil i poored in from the service was about 5L's

cheers

hmmm the needle goes from 0-to 2 then goes back to zero and the lights on ...from what i see that the engine is only leaking oil at the half moon seals so woudl that be causing the pressure drop or what ever its doin?

Cheers

Chi, get ur oil digstick sorted asap!

sounds like you are low on oil; i find my oil pressure gauge not to work so well BUT when if the light is coming on that is not good!

Like my oil prssure gauge uses to sometimes read my oil pressure was just above zero and then some other times it would read fine, but i never had a issue with my light coming on.

When my oil light did come on it was cuz i didnt have any oil at all (blew the oil line in 2), so if ur light is coming on thats not good...

i would maybe think about putting a litre or two of oil into your car BUT then you dont really want to overfill it cuz thats not good too

Cheers Michael

hmmm the wierd thing about it is ....it like goes upto 2 and then drops down to zero then rises back upto 2 then drops again man its hell dodgy....hmmm i think i got oil in there...would it be teh like oil guage playing up>?

lol that reminds me of a f**kin idiot friend i have who once poured about 8 litres of oil into his car cos it wasnt full, but it only had an 8 litre tank and was already pretty much full, about 5 kays down the road a massive smoke cloud drowned out 4 lanes of traffic

DONT OVER FILL WITH OIL !!!

hmmmm lol ill put 1 L of oil in there and see aye :whistling: but yeah its a hell wierd problem aye :? like when i brake...it goes to zero...but now when i drive normally ....and like i see the poil pressure guage rise....but no over 2 then it just drops back to zero and the red light comes on :? im pretty paranoid aye ! :P so yeah need as much info as i can

Cheers

the oil indicator is dodgy on most skylines. Mine constantly sits on 0 and floats around.

Although the light works on a seperate sensor and if that comes on, that is no good.

Best to go to a mech and get a oil pressure test done, as that light should not be coming on at all :whistling:

hmmm yeah ill attack the sump wiht ya :whistling: u tell me when u want to do it with me mike :P hmmm yeah i guess that can be another reason..with the reader at the back but hmmm i just hope everythigns alright i hope iget about more then 1L of oil when i drain the motor tomorow morning

Cheers

hmmm so what kermit is saying so basically if i over topped the engine with the oil then my 2 sensors will go off? but how ? isn't it only the sensors will go off when the oil levels are low? can somoen please explain it to me?

Cheers

    • Yes, but it's not as easy as pulling a fuse on anything other than an R32. There's a routine you have to do, involving disconnecting a loom plug and bleeding down the preload.
    • A question for tuning awd, is it possible to disable the AWD? The stagea is an EA/T AWD, Toshi had said on a GTR, he was able to disable it and make it 2wd. Just wanted to double check if this was possible
    • Whoa, that's a name I've not see for a long time! Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
    • I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...
    • Its hard to tell really. The Q50 owner's forum talks about it a lot and has quite a few people directly affected, but no idea what % of cars sold actually had the block replaced. Also, there seem to be 2 distinct issues which both get diagnosed by Infiniti as requiring a block replacement (no wonder they are going broke) 1. "Porous block" where coolant mixes with oil through thin or poorly cast parts of the block 2. Head coolant gallery plugs not sealing. If I was noticing engine coolant loss I'd start with cooling system pressure test (as always) and then I'd pull the cam covers and reseal the coolant gallery plugs on both side before worrying about a potentially porous block.  If neither of those did the trick it would be put in a second hand engine out of japan; I haven't checked pricing but I'm sure there are plenty around by now as they've been in production 10+ years
