OK Some of you know me from the Wheels show or some Friday evenings. I would also say Paintball, but we know that one never go off the ground, but at least everyone got their money back! I'm probably asking in the wind here but if you don't ask you never get.

I'm having a bugger of a time deciding between these two turbo upgrades and I'm getting to the crunch point of needing to make a decision. Does anyone have one of these turbo packages and is willing to show me how your car responds (nothing illegal), I'm after low to mid range response. Fairs fair when I get the upgrade done I'll take you out. I've also got a 6 pack of VB I'm very willing to give away.

I know there's several GTR's in Canberra, but few with upgraded turbo's and probably fewer on this forum with a working car :P

Thanks

Jon

Thanks Race snooze, I have read that thead to bits and it gives seriously conflicting reports. There is a seperate thread on these two turbo choices which I have also read many times.

I'm after the feel and local experiance.

Yep a couple of us over here in the west!!!

I have not been in a R with the GT-SS but I have the 2860-5 and they are all good!

I do have head work and cams, but they power on from 3400 rpm sweet!!

You mean west Canberra?

I'd be keen to see how these turbos perform, might get me especially motivated to get my car up and running quicker.

I just fitted the Garrett 2860-7s (note 7, not 5), which after much research I came to the conclusion were the equivalent of GT-SS. I would have gone the GT-SS if it wern't for the garretts being much better value. Now these 2860-7s are confusing because acording to Garrett's website they are "OEM on Nissan RB26DETT used in Skyline R34 GT RN-1" - so I assume they are what's commonly refered to as N1 turbos. And the 2860-5s are roughly equvalent of HKS 2530s, which are another level up from GT-SS, and not great for mid range... as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong.

So anyway, my hoopty (R32 GTR) is much nicer with the new turbos - thrust arrives a tiny bit later than stock, but still a fat mid range. But is crying out for the appropriate supporting mods such as a computer of some description. Anyway, I'd take you up on that six pack, except I'm taking off overseas in a matter of days. Good luck.

Well I went the 2860-5's with a Power FC +BC from Croyden.

Get the car back next week and hope I don't lose all that bottom/midrange.

Strange that CRD won't do a dyno run showing RPM's only km/h.

Hi Jon

Let me know how you go. I reckon you'll be good with mid range, people seems to say so anyway.

If you could PM me details of costs and associated parts etc that would be awesome too mate, I'm gonna do mine at some point...

Cheers

Matt
