I'm looking at a 92 R32 GTR which is said to have quite a few modifications which I have had the dealer list and have added below.

I would appreciate some opinions on the modifications listed given I intend to use it for Hillclimbs and occasional track days and still drive it to work. I would also like to know what to look for, what to avoid or change etc in order to get it over the pits here in ACT. What do they look for?

Dealer list

Rebuild motor with HKS pistons, Steel Gasket etc. $15,000.00

OS Gieken twin plate clutch $2,400.00

Second immobiliser alarm $240.00

Full exhaust system $1,200.00

Torque split controller $400.00

HKS coil-over suspension $2,800.00

Fit & Align $480.00

Brembo brake callipers front and rear $2,500.00

New slotted rotors & performance pads front and rear $1,500.00

Fit $500.00

19" x 10" wheels and tyres $3,600.00 (I noticed the passenger side rear wheel sits out slightly past the guard, while the driver side rear lines up okay... could this be camber/adjustment or could there be something wrong?)

TOTAL $47,070.00

The dealer wants 35k for it.

I'm not sure if I'm better off buying standard and doing some of this stuff myself, or let someone else do all the work.

PS: It needs Federal tyres on it though :P

Uhh, aren't Brembo's standard on GTR's? Dyno Tune price looks a bit much ($500 is about what you pay in Syd/Melb), Spark plugs? who lists spark plugs? There seems to be quite a few "Fit" prices that don't line up with parts.

For that kind of money in a 32 GTR, I'd expect a monstrous hp figure, dyno graphs, and the whole driveline in tip top shape.

Not to mention the car be in good nick.

Take the price list with a grain of salt untill you have a full list of recipts :D

also, WHEN BUYING A gtr it is a MUST to get it inspected by the best workshop you can find. make it a condition of the sale that you get a compression and leak down test.

a comprehensive inspection will cost you almost $500 but well worth it if spending that much on a 15 year old car :)

Does this mean the gtst needs a new home :D

Uhh, aren't Brembo's standard on GTR's?

With R32's, only on V-Spec (II?). Non-V-Spec has the same brakes as R33 GTS-25t I think.

R33 and R34 standard across the range.

Sounds nice,

Now don,t let the list below turn you off it as it looks like a lot but it isn't too bad.

First off is it in ACT and if so it gives you some bargaining power with the sales guy as it will need an engineers report to be done to make it legal.

If you want to keep the coil overs you will need to see an engineer to see if they will pass it now for ACT rego as they have changed the rules. Prices are about right for a good tune this is what you will pay.

If you want to buy a standard 32gtr it will cost 15000 upwards for a rough one and way more than 20000 in parts let alone labor so 35000 for this many mods is ok.

The T04Z 's are not to bad and are very comparable in lag to a 2530 setup when tuned properly.See if the head gasket is a 51thou or 80thou thickness one as if it is the thicker one your comp will be down slightly and hence hinder turbo spool time.

I would expect to see between 350 and 400kw at the wheels with this style turbo

As for wheel size you are only allowed 1inch over the largest fitment wheel for your model as 17's were the largest, you can only legally fit 18inch. But see an engineer and he may be able to get them past.

Engineers report for all mods will be about 700 to 800.

Make sure the car has rear centre stop light, rear child seat anchors x2, side intrusion bars and is under 91decibels for noise otherwise you will have to pay someone to do it for you. I carried out all this work myself and can give you tips if you need.

As for the wheel sticking out further make sure that there is no panel damage, suspension damage or for something as stupid as a wheel spacer on one side

Brembos were only standard fitment on 32 vspec2 and all previous models all early 32s had sumitomo brakes

If you want a vehicle check with comp and leak down test i charge about $200 which gives me about 4hrs to do it or for just a normal look it is about $50 which is usually all you need

Hope this helps and if you need to ask any more questions either email me or ring on 0422214621 and i can run you through it

Does this mean the gtst needs a new home :(

Well... not unless the GTR proves to be too much fun. I still really enjoy the gtst and would only sell after I knew I was happy with the GTR. Or I could keep the both of them and run both categories ;) although that might bring me undone at the corners when I realise I don't have 4wd :(

Might have to sell the Harley first... anyone wanna buy a 1999 Road King Classic? Going cheap if you get in before Mark comes home hehe :worship: I could get a hot GTR then hehe

1) First off is it in ACT

2) See if the head gasket is a 51thou or 80thou thickness

3) I carried out all this work myself and can give you tips if you need.

4) If you want a vehicle check with comp and leak down test i charge about $200 which gives me about 4hrs to do it or for just a normal look it is about $50 which is usually all you need

1) Its in Sydney

2) I will ask him, but I must admit, he was irate when I very politely asked him to provide a simple list of what had been done to the car with the reported 90k having been spent on it. (To be honest, I suspect he thinks I am a tyre kicker with no intention to purchase)

3 & 4) Thank you :worship: I truly appreciate your offer. I will let you know what happens.

I would like to go up this weekend if time permits and test drive it (if the dealer will allow it).

A huge thank you to everyone on the ACT forum, you're all fantastic and always willing to help each other out.

Cheers

Michele

hey Michele,

if he is not helpful it's probably not the best sign. its your money and i would want them to bend over backwards to tell me every single mod done and i would want to see some recipts for all the work done :action-smiley-069:

if this one is not right there are scores of fine examples for sale in the forums and can all be had for the same/less money. If it is in sydney get Nathan from Grey Imports to check it out. he is a top bloke and will do the right thing. He is located in Annandale.

Cheers!

Would you mind telling us who the dealer is? As some of the dealers up there aren't much good, I wouldn't buy a car again from the dealer I bought mine at. There roadworthy was a joke.

PM sent with dealer name

Hi Michele,

Well, here's my reaction. This car sounds like a big load of trouble. As I say this is just my opinion.

1) OS Giken twin plate may be tough to drive. My OS Giken twin plate sounds like hell and is unforgiving.

2) APEXi powerFC $1,450.00 AH HA HA HA HA. Or $900 through a group-buy and 5 mins to install.

3) 19" x 10" wheels and tyres $3,600.00 - they're going to feel like hell. bear in mind that the gtr originally came out with 16"! also, getting it registered may be a mission - that tyre placard won't be very convincing. also all four must be the same size or attesa will choke.

4) all that stuff will be tough to register. it'll have to be engineered.

5) all that stuff will be tough to insure. very tough.

Finally, if the dealer is rude in any way, I think you should walk away. They don't even have your money, and they're being jackasses?? HA! Doing business involves good relationships in both directions.

If you do decide to go with it I echo CEF11E's advice to get Nathan to check it out. He's a really nice guy and does great work.

Like I said, just my opinion.

I'll back Jules, Nic & Sig': solid advice, lads! I don't think any modded GT-R is fault free, long term. However, there are 'blinders' out there if you look hard enough! Budget extra dollars for thge early days when something someone misses as being wrong goes pop. A Group A homologation, $110,000 car at or above 15 years DOES cost money when something breaks!!

    • Hey everyone!!  I've noticed that whenever I do my oil changes, after putting 4L in, the oil level sits at the top mark in the dipstick. This is after letting the old oil drain for a very long time too! I've checked the oil level daily for the past few mornings. It happens every time and it's confusing because all the threads say that it should take about 4.7L (With some just adding the full 5L) My next thought is to figure out if the dipstick I have is correct so could someone please tell me the length of the RB25DET engine oil dipstick?  I've checked images of some of the genuine dipsticks, but none of them have the length in it. https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-engine-oil-level-dipstick-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-stagea-c35-laurel-y34-cedric-gloria-rb25de-t-neo?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOortQXofgmiHVRKuIaiKuygL4k0Ewp68c3isGZk0vvKOJ7Yqf3iB However.... the engraving on the genuine ones say 05002 while mine says AA000. This makes me believe that maybe I have a wrong dipstick? I just want to confirm before I buy a new one. The car is a fresh import from Japan so I don't have details of the previous owner to ask him. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
    • Sport. I didn’t rebleed it cause I just removed the slave and left connected.    I will change line and slave and see how it goes.
    • Oh and how is the rattle when foot is on the clutch ?
    • Did you get the sport or track ? From what the documentation says the uniclutch has a small amount of movement to disengage.  So your story of tricky pedal setup seems common.    Hopefully you got it bled up too, as the bite point moving around is usually either plates wearing in or air in the line.
