And it went through that cycle for a long time until they dropped the price... well that and the fact the games when they 1st came out looked like SNES quality... as soon as the price starts hitting 600 and below it will start outselling Big Macs

Also in the original post of this thread "...on the internet and alot of articles are calling it a flop... has only been on sale for 2 months...".

To answer was the stuff you reading global? If so, then its a flop because the sales are no where near that of the other gaming machines such as the Wii or 360 and the PS3 has been out for a lot longer then 2 months in other countries.

Sorry I meant is it a flop in Australia...I have read about the drama around launch dates in America etc and it seemed to be doing well but I was just curious to see how it was fairing here, hence the reason I said it had only been out for two months as I was referring to here.

yea ps3 has had a shakey start thats for sure.

Developers arnt pushing out the maximum from it yet either (Fact: games on xbox360 are currently graphically superior to ps3)

But in time i am sure the ps3 will take off once it can get more consoles into house holds and better, more exclusive games.

I give it about 1 year before the ps3 will be in full stride and by then the price will be right and the games will look better then xbox.

Remember, it only takes 1 game to make a console a success just look at what halo did for the original xbox.

Comparing Xbox 360 to PS3 games currently isn't fair unless you are using 1st gen xbox360 games. But you are right once the PS3 hits the 2nd gen games (next year) we should start to see the graphics being pushed further, the problem is alot of developers are lazy and aren't wanting to push too hard because as it has been said time and time again the PS3 is a hard console to program for. I think Final Fantasy will be the first game to come out that will start push the PS3 as they were always pushing the PS2 and PS1 graphics to new levels and I am sure they will deliver on the new games. Im inteteresed in seeing what Resistance 2 will look like considering it already is a very nice looking game and still is a first gen title. I believe Ninja Gaiden is hitting the shelves this month or next month and after playing the demo that game is on my must buy list. The Darkness is coming as well either this or next month and the trailers for it look good but I might rent before buying that game.

I think maybe we should start a PS3 game review thread to help out other forum members that might be looking into getting a PS3 so we can point them in the direction of games we have played and our opinions on them. I already own: Motorstorm, F1 CE, RFOM. Oblivion, Tony Hawk, Fight Night Round 3, Ridge Racer 7, Tiger Woods PGA, Super Rub A Dub (PSstore), Tekken (PSstore), GTHD (PSstore), Go Puzzle (PSstore) and will be getting Calling All Cars (PSstore) if it released this week.

I thought ninja gaiden was pretty shitty. It's the same game i played 3 years ago.

Also the 360 had a quite a strong launch lineup with, PGR3, and GRAW being the best of the bunch, but considering it was our first taste of next gen gaming it blew us away more than the ps3 did. And thats understandable cos the ps3 was a year after 360 and we'd already seen next gen graphics already.

Im still leaning towards an Xbox360 before a PS3 at the moment... I honestly couldnt give a rusty leppers hand hook about blu-ray... i want a gaming machine. If i wanted to buy a blu-ray player or media centre then i would (well i already have a media centre, its called a laptop with a remote).

I guess the best advice I can give people is head down your local game store and play both systems. Sure the PS3 is sold as more then a gaming system and it does perform well as a gaming system and media hub. Personally the 360 doesn't appeal to me it seems like a very rushed console and for some reason I just can't stand the controllers.

Depending on your own personal situation and tastes will decide what console you are going to go for, I wouldn't try to push the PS3 onto somebody or the 360 all you can do is tell them to research both consoles and make a choice based on what they discover and what delivers to their needs.

I think it's got a lot to do with following, I was a Sega fan ever since the mastersystem and I bought just about every console between there and the dreamcast. My next following was the playstation, so far I've owned ps1, ps2 and psp, I wouldn't own anything else.

At the moment I can't justify $1000 for PS3, should they ever come down to $600ish with many popular games available I will get one. I think this is how a lot of other people see it too, ps3's success will come with time. What I can't believe is that the 360's are still afloat with all the over heating issues, I just wouldn't trust them. And Nintendo wii... I don't how these sell. Surely they could only appeal to kids, the hand controller thing reminds eyetoy for ps2, who wants to wave and jump around while playing a racing game.

You have to remember though blu-ray isnt just there to play movies it allows for a much bigger storage medium than dvd for games as well.

xbox need the intercooler that has been available since launch stops all these problems of overheating. I no what you mean though.. its such an oversight and so unacceptable that they let the console come out with an overheating problem.

So very true. rockstar have said while developing gta4 they are having problems with the limited size on the xbox. and although xbox does have an optional hd dvd drive i dont no of anyone who's actually bought them so developers cant exactly go and design there games based on hd dvd's.

Anyone no the capacity of blu-ray compared to hd dvd?

i can't understand how xbox overheats anyway. i mean the main heatsourse (power supply) is external (and massive and ugly). the PS3 runs an internal PS and still doens't seem to suffer any overheating issues, and it's fans are very quiet.

The difference in capacity between HD DVD and Blu- ray is 15GB to 25GB respectively. Does anyone know if the HD DVD add on for the 360 could play HD DVD games or is it primarily a movie only option?

said it's going to be movies only..

I don't think storage is a problem.. PS1 always had 4x disc games, etc near the end of it's life.. They can always decompress a few gig of stuff onto the HDD, and then just load movies, etc off the disc. Just requires some intelligence from the developers.

Unfortunately xbox was available in 2 variants from launch. the core system has no hdd.

As a result developers need to take into account that not all xbox owners will have a hard drive. Unless they start saying game requires ex amount of hdd space.. but then that is another problem because why should ppl be forced to outlay extra money to get a hdd just to play a game?

Rockstar have also said that gta4 will have no load times etc so they definetly will not want to put it onto more than 1x disc.

Oversight on MS's part?

in theory though HD-DVD can have a 3rd layer so it can technically have more space than Blu Ray. In hindsight it would of been good of microsoft to include the HD DVD drive and HDD standard. But that probably would of meant a price like we pay for the PS3, it's a tricky one.

I guess time will tell for both on which was had the better idea to add everything in one setup (ps3) or add some many varients and add ons (xbox360)

I think all Sony need to do is make the price a little more attractive and start releasing some big name titles.

Yeah cos on one hand you get only what you want with the 360 for a cheaper price.

With the ps3 you get everything at a higher price.

And if you do want everything on the 360 it's gonna cost you more than just buying a ps3.

How i long for the days of either snes or megadrive, all you needed was extra controllers. (please note i'm not including 32x or megacd as they did nothing for sega, except for help kill them)

I remember reading somewhere that TDK and Hitachi were working on 200gb blu ray discs. The Hitachi one was ment to be accessing 8 recording layers on a single side of the platter and was aimed to reach the market in 2009 (still awhile away I know but still in the PS3 life span). As for TDK they already have a 100gb prototype blu ray disc and as far as I can remember (i think this was from 2006) were working on a 200gb disc as well using the same 8 layer setup like the Hitachi unit.
