On my way to work this morning I heard on the radio that police are now going to be performing more random car stops to defect vehicles. They say its to crack down on "un-roadworthy" vehicles. So where does that leave us, Our vehicles are no where near un-roadworthy most of the time yet police continue to defect imported cars for the most silly things. I found this very annoying, just wanted to know the thoughts you guys have????

Well fingers crossed they do actually aim at the unroadworthy cars.

Those that are rude as shit and force me to hit the recirc button as their car smokes and stinks like crap; those that run bald tyres, those that have noticable wheel bearing noise, those that have their rear pads metal on metal!!!! :(

Bring in the yearly inspections; similiar to that of otherstates.. Then we can have our local mechanic ensure our cars are up to scratch and also remove defects. At least I think thats how it works interstate?!? :worship:

Agree slightly . Like sambo said though , dont are cars need to be stock to pass an inspection. All this would mean that any of us with mods would be paying for our mechanic's next cruise in europe. LOL .Already done that. LOL.

What they should be targeting is those heap of s%#t cars that are over 25yrs old and full of rust etc .

Imagine having to pull of your exhaust , tint , pfc , rims , air filters etc every year. the bills would be scary $$$.

my ten cents anyway.

+1

or spend more time catching the thieves that steal cars

just out of curiosity; Im sure many of you have copped a canary on the windscreen of your Skyline. Including myself.

At one stage, i had 3 fkn stickers on the windscreen at once...

My question IS: What were you originally defected for when pulled over / vehicle randomly inspected? Too Loud? Too Low? Bald Tyres?

The open to atmosphere Blitz Blow off Valve was my serial offender/perpetrator!

Oh, and once bald tyres...

It wasnt until i had to go Regency park where they went over the whole bloody car that they wrote me a nice list of things that needed to be fixed/had to be reverted to stock. (this almost 7 years ago- back in 2000 -we live & learn eh!)...

(All my aftermarket goodies are back on there now however :domokun: )

You could take one look at my 33, and most people would pass it for bog stock; except the diameter of the rear muffler & its tip and the engine note when you hear it drive past. Have tried to keep it as sleepish as possible over the years i've owned it, and the last defect i received was the one for bald tyres in 2001.

i must add though.... i have never copped a random vehicle inspection... all of my defects were obatined due to scallywag behaviour! Being young and stupid behind the wheel was probably a large contributor.

So, what was it that the chops didnt like about your car that made em originally slap ya with a canary???

Kralster,

So that you know what we are talking about..........

When we say roadworthy we mean maintained to ensure it drives safely. That being good tyres, good shockers, good bushes, good brakes and doesn't leak oil/water.

Modified for performance; well that has nothing to do with not being roadworthy but everything to do with emissions.

---------

On the note of being defected.... I've been close. I was pulled over for Tint (30% on the front windows) and ripped it off on the spot.

well if a car doesn't meet emisions it is unroadworthy, i'd rather have a few less kilowats and not be releasing as much posionous gas into the atmosphere, if you don't run a cat you deserved to be run over. Unless it's on a race car where you are permited.

roadworthy doesn't just mean is safe and won't be falling apart, it included compliance with ADR's which some people on here's cars do not do. therefore they are unroadworthy.

i looked at this in the paper and almost considered selling my car

i doubt they'll take any of the shit boxes off the road to be honest. it'll just end up us all being picked on for having a safer car than factory

my car wasnt driveable when DA was on at mallala. Took my mum's stock standard 95 model toyota corolla for a cruise out there. Tell ya what, i felt safer in my car in the times ive been out on the drive to mallala previously than i did that one weekend in mum's car. My car gives you road feeling. Doesnt wander around in the grooves, just sits and behaves. Found the corolla wandering all over the road. Yes i know its a smaller car etc, but still arent some of the modifications we do a lot safer than standard?

i know this isnt really the issue, but its crap really. i heard that regency fees have gone up 200 percent too

having a few less kw doesnt mean it will be running cleaner than a high hp/kw car. Most cars here running big numbers would be actually running better than std with ideal afr numbers putting out less emissions than std. Even std cars with cat converters are useless as they are the same as a muffler that needs changing every few thousand kms to cut the emissions properly.

bah.... So its worse having a well maintained safe car that brakes well, is able to steer easily around obstacles, doesn't leak oil for you to hit on your catless motor bike that makes a little more power than an old dunga that has no suspension, leaks oil, bald tyres, no brakes etc etc....

You've completely missed the point.... There's so so many damn examples like this on the road and the police simply choose a modified car rather than one that is not maintained.

I'm so so sick of driving behind cars that blow smoke and stink. They need to do something about it.
