The police can defect a car if they THINK it's unroadworthy. If they happen to think that the tyres are bald they can defect you, even if they are brand new. It's the way the law is set up, the onis is on us to prove that it's roadworthy. Unfortunatly they make it hard for us south australians to do this by not allowing cars to be inspected by local mechanics and making it unsreasonable to get engineers certs. While lots of cars may comply to immisions, we have to have it tested interstate at a large expence. If they want to reduce the amount of cars that are "unroadworthy" due to modifications, they should look at ways to reduce the costs involved get rid of some of the BS red tape and change the laws so they are black ad white, not upto the interperitation of unprofessionals, ie. police officers and ex-bussdrivers(regency inspectors) That way the goal posts will not be shifted depending on the mood of these people. From some of the stories I've heard the ADRs mean nothing to these people, i mean for fk sake, that's what there there for!

Sorry about the rant, but this shi7 gets my blood boiling, if it was anyone but the government they would not be there today. I'm a cnc machinist and do lots of aerospace work, imagine if i started to interperate the standards in my own way, say rock up at work and decide that it would be cool to make those ally parts out of rubber, people would be hurt, dead and I'd be screwed. That's why standards are there, to standardise things, they should not be changed by the person interperating them.

Magnas are fine... its them shitbox commies thats leaking shit all over the road, bald tyres from the hektic burnouts, burnt out tail lights, major drift damage, chopped springs and drill holes in the zorst roaring down the street in the middle of the night.

Yep i got defected in my daily driver R32 on sat night. its pretty standard. all i done is lowered it and painted the stock wheels white to try and dress it up a bit. i'm booked in to regency on monday 2nd july at 8am at a cost of $132 plus i need the time off work to get there. I asked why the copper is choosing to defect my car when its pretty stock. its a bit too low big whoop. Would have been nice if they did more to try and find my old R32 that stolen earlier this year. lost a solid $6000 when that car never turned up again.

Funny how i never had any problems when i used to drive my shitty old 120y around.

^^ its not funny more as sad been in the same boat

i did manage to get a 120y panel van eventually defected when the zaust fell off and i was driving it arround with like a chopped coat hanger jammed in it but every now and again it would come apart and well when its hot u dont touch :D

alot like this pic

i tested out screamer the other day and i rumbled past a few cop cars and i have an r33... i can just see it tho, as soon as i get my rims the cops start taking interest. its all a bunch of shite.

so in other words they make focus on other cars not just imports, cant really increase randoms stops for imports as they seem to pull every one over at the mo, yes same set up as nsw is needed, we took the ns.com project car over to syd for engineering makes life alot easier :D mmm legal t67 widebody decent sized n offsetted rims :(

my opinion on defecting is just the cops way of trying to control the amount of modified cars on the street! more modified cars would mean more people hooning and risk taking behavior! not everyone does it but there is that fraction of people who've been too heavily influenced by the fast and the furious and shit! but the cops have also lost focus on what the original intent of defecting was, unroadworthy cars!

your lucky paully cause your screamer leaks like a whore sounds like you have a massive exhaust leak i would becareful if i were you.

As I was on my way to work the other day I noticed a VL commodore with an entire window missing!!! how can cops miss that and continue pulling over imports that are far far from that condition!!! jealousy???? lol.

Just though i would share my experiences, ive been pulled over at random and defected in my Cefiro, wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary yet i received a defect.

However i used to own a old shit box 1985 colt the had been smashed in the front had no exhaust what so ever yet i would be pulled into a RBT/defect station and they would just let me go. I also own a daily driver 1985 magna that i sprayed gloss black to cover the rust and crappy paint, has no roof lining, dents everywhere from me jumping on it and blows alot of smoke if its low on its "sigma syrup" (read: 3lt of Moreys oil honey and 1lt of 40-70 oil) yet police turn a blind eye, im my mind the police seem very biased as to what they defect, but thats just my opinion.

IF your car is modified and you are worried of getting defected you can get an engineers report that says it is safe and meets nec standards (after a few tests that support this, eg brake tests if extra kws etc). Price of report dep on how many mods it has...

    • I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.
    • IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰
    • Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
    • Please noooooooo 😭 As for wrap, no thank you mate, I've seen and used "carbon fibre" wrap before, and for these hard tops, they look soooo good when colour matched Like this >>>
    • That depends, someone might offer me a good price to resell it Mark... Ha ha ha!   I can get it wrapped in a really nice looking carbon fiber vynil if you want?
